Watch VideosSomebody who's just starting out with podcasting, I would highly recommend anchor.fm because this is not an advertisement, but they really help you kind of get started getting to know podcasting, really understanding audio stuff. And it's also just, you can do it from your phone. I actually still use Anchor and my podcast has been featured on all over the place. So I highly recommend using Anchor just because it's so stinking easy. I know a lot of people don't like it as well, but I really like it because it's simple. But I would highly recommend that as a resource. They even have a podcast about podcasts that you can listen to. They have lots of videos. It's just a really cool, cool app.
Recommended resources for podcasters. There's a lot here, so I'll go quick. One, never use Zoom to record a remote interview. Use something like Zencaster, which is phenomenal and you get much better quality and it's much easier to edit. Don't get anything crazy like an expensive mic. I've used, I think it's a $70, $80 mic from the very beginning and I've maybe gotten the latest version a few times. Just got it off Amazon. If you want to do your own editing, I don't recommend it, but there's resources like Owlphonics if you want to Google that. I use Audacity, which is a free software to edit. Again, I don't edit my stuff, but I tweak or edit a little bit. And so there's a lot of great free resources out there, but that's where I would start.
Anker FM is a great resource, Riverside, to record video and audio as well. As far as editing, you can do it on GarageBand. Audacity is great. I heard someone say YouTube, YouTube University, you can learn everything from how to create an aggregate mic on your computer, on your Mac, to an audio interface that you might be able to download on your PC, you know, from what mics, microphones to use, you know, start off, you know, go on Amazon, start off with something like that, that way you can see if this is something that you really want to do. But do your research on what's out there. There's a ton of recommended resources out there.
One resource that I did utilize when I was first starting my podcast is fiverr.com, so that's f-i-v-i-r-r.com, and these are a bunch of freelancers who do creative work, just little tiny projects starting at five dollars. It's really affordable depending on what you want to do. I got someone on there to do intro and outro music for me to make it sound a little more professional. I also got people on there to help me figure out how to gain followers, help me with my social media, do different artwork projects. There's an unlimited amount of people out there that can help you do some of those things that you aren't sure how to do, and it's really affordable, so I would definitely recommend that website if you are looking to have a small job done that you can't do yourself.
Recommended resources I would say for me was anchor.fm. When I had a girl that I dated introduced me to this platform to do podcasts and from there I started. That's how I started doing my podcast on June 27, 2018 was use Anchor. Didn't have equipment at all just use my cell phone and that's it. We just we did we started off doing audio then once I gained the courage to do video I started doing video on YouTube, Facebook Live and what I also use is StreamYard. Either StreamYard, Melon or Restream but most of the time I use StreamYard and Anchor. I also do use Spreaker because Spreaker has the interface where you could have your guests in the podcast with you recording the podcast but it's very tricky on how to do that so it's best to have somebody who could help you do it in order to achieve the success that you like to have using that.
There are so many different people that you can find on YouTube that can help you figure out how to get started and help you figure out what equipment you want, what hosting platform you want, just basically everything you need to start a podcast that can help you decide what's going to work for you. Don't necessarily listen to those people that will tell you you have to have the top of line everything because you really don't. I had a career before this working with professional video editing, the best equipment the money could buy, and I'm very happy with how mine sounds and I literally just have a laptop and a USB microphone and that is it. There are so many podcaster groups on Facebook. If you need tips, if you need help, if you're having issues with technical things, just go on Facebook, find a group with lots of members and just ask them because people are really really helpful and they can help you troubleshoot whatever you're dealing with, whatever you're worried about, they can help you figure out how to have an audience, how to grow an audience, they can help you figure out how to monetize, how to attract advertisers.
