The thing about getting started with a podcast is, first of all, you got to get started. Don't be scared. Be fearless. Have a game plan. Create an outline of what you're going to talk about on your particular podcast. That's the best advice I can give to anybody who's looking to get into becoming a podcaster. Just get started. Don't procrastinate. Don't hold back. Go for it. Remember, your first time is the best time for you to mess up and redo it again. So once you learn from what you learned from doing from the first episode, that you're doing your podcast, you can use that as a measuring stick of what you can do and what you should not do on a particular podcast. So like I said, just get started.

The first thing you need to know is it's not as difficult as you might think. A lot of people thought when I first started my podcast they were they were kind of surprised that just anybody can start a podcast. Podcasting is not just for people who work for companies or have a lot of expensive equipment. Anybody can start a podcast which is a really neat thing that anybody can have this platform. So the first thing I would tell you is get online and find a tutorial that will give you the step-by-steps of how to start a podcast. There are so many good tutorials out there, that's what I did before I started mine. So I went through each step and figured out how easy it was. You just need to decide what equipment you'd like to go for because lots of people use different things. What platforms you'd like to post on. My best advice would be make sure you get on Apple Podcasts as that's where most people listen to their podcasts and again any of those online tutorials can help you figure out how to do that.

Advice for getting started as a podcaster really is just to start recording because that's the fun part is sitting down and maybe interviewing somebody or you know creating your own content and I mean that's why people begin to podcast and you can get so bogged down with all the technicalities of what microphone should I use, what editing software, do I need intro music, you know all these questions they can really bog you down and frustrate you and so the sooner you just start producing content and getting it out there you know that's exactly what I did to just get a feel for what it was like to podcast, what does my voice sound like, do I say ums and ahs too much, you know do I uh those types of things and just start publishing content and over time you're going to start figuring it out but nothing will prepare you better than just starting to record.

One of the pieces of advice that I could give someone to getting started on a podcast would be do research. That is the number one thing. If you're going to write a list, the number one thing was do your research. Whether it be what platform you're going to use, to what computer you're going to use, to what microphone, microphone stands, does your computer need, do you need an external audio interface, the room that you're going to be recording in. Anything like that helps out a great deal. Research and everything else will follow. Once you do your research, you're good to go.

Getting started as a podcaster, you know, a lot of people think that you have to do, you know, all the crazy things, learn about everything that has to do with podcasting, get the perfect gear and everything. You can start with your phone. So that's how I started. I just started recording on my phone using the app called Anchor.fm. And it's free, and it's super easy. And you can launch your podcast to iTunes and Spotify and all the big ones straight from your phone, you know, using Anchor. And I would highly recommend doing that if you're just getting started. And if you wanted to go crazy after that, and like, keep, keep, you know, going further, then absolutely, you know, get the cool stuff, you know, watch all the YouTube videos about how, you know, what gear to get and everything too. So but just be excited about it, have the passion that you that's required to to be a podcaster. That's really all you need to do to get started and your phone.

When you're starting a podcast, you really should have a message or a theme that you'd like to stick to. It's difficult for people to want to listen to a podcast that kind of is all over the place, so before you start your podcast, really identify who your audience is and identify, you know, basically what you want to talk about and then kind of identify a length that you think your episodes will typically fall within. You know, typically when people want to come listen to a podcast, they are going to be expecting a similar length every time they come, so they're going to be turned off if you have a lot of five-minute episodes, a lot of one-hour episodes, two-hour episodes, so try to keep it in a similar time length and then you're more likely to keep your listeners.
