Crazy stories - Podcaster Video Transcripts

So one time I was actually at a conference and I was about to go up to ask somebody if they would be on my podcast, who was a big deal, right? And she's actually a co-author with a Nobel Prize winner, so kind of a big deal. And I was super nervous and then I was using my phone to record because, you know, I didn't have my stuff there and it was just on the fly. And I remember I said, hey, you know, and asked her a question that I thought would be good for the podcast. And she went ahead and recorded, but then the whole thing did not record. And so I felt so stupid. And then I didn't end up actually, you know, asking her again because I thought, okay, that would look really dumb. But that was something that was kind of crazy, but it was really cool too. And podcasts really help you to connect with people in ways that a lot of other things don't.

This is one of the craziest stories that I always tell people, is that the reason I started a podcast was because I had bought a school bus, converted it into a tiny home, and we were on the road. And my idea was to live on this school bus while I'm doing a podcast so I can, you know, kind of chronicle it as we rode to different states or different cities here in the United States. That is my crazy story.

Sometimes the equipment doesn't work as expected. I've gotten pretty good that I can don't do this mistake, but there's one interview, maybe there's been one or two, where I set everything up, it looks like it's recording, and then I get home or get back to my editing software and it didn't record. Ah, kills me. But I just reached out to the person I interviewed and apologized, told them it was a complete fluke, and we re-recorded and they were kind about it, it was just fine. So, sometimes it happens.

If you have a podcast like mine where it's mostly interview based, don't be afraid of rejection. I ask people for interviews all the time and I get told no, and that's fine. That's part of it. Not everybody's as comfortable sharing their life via audio as maybe we are, the people that would like to start the podcast. Also, this should, you know, be a no-brainer, but just always make sure you're checking your equipment before you start because I've had lots of stressful situations where I was just about to hop on an interview with someone and my equipment that was working before suddenly wasn't working and, you know, it's kind of embarrassing when you have to tell someone hey I'm really sorry my microphone's not working, can I call you back in 30 minutes? So I run into that a lot just because I have an old laptop and sometimes my microphone doesn't want to work anymore.
