One of my favorite aspects of being a lawyer is how versatile the education is that I have and how there are a variety of career paths that a lawyer can take. I have been a lawyer for over 20 years, but pretty much my entire career I've not actually worked as a lawyer. I'm licensed to practice law, but I work in the field of financial services. I give advice to families and individuals in regard to their taxes, their estate planning, their tax planning, gifting, business succession planning, and I do all of that using my legal background. It was, you know, having a law degree, being licensed to practice law, those were valuable things, and they actually helped me get a job in a field that I really enjoy.

My favorite aspects of being an attorney in general, let's be honest, is that with three years of additional schooling, your pay is typically doubled what you might have for undergraduates. So it does provide a lot of opportunities for high income pay. As a patent attorney, the thing I enjoy the most really is that I still get to be an engineer. I get to work with inventions, I get to work with products, I get to help grow our business and see concepts go from a concept phase to a patent phase to a product phase to enforcement and protecting that around the world level. And so that's been fun. I'm an in-house counsel at this point. I work for a company and so watching that company grow and our profits being shared throughout the company, that's been fun.
