I don't really truly believe that there's one cause for anorexia. I believe that it can be caused by numerous things. It could be genetics. It can be certain triggers in your life. Stress, the media, I would also say is one. And if you're super athletic like I was, that was my issue and my cause for my eating disorder is that I was constantly body shamed. And it really triggered me to think that I needed to change myself and my body and lose weight. And so that's when I started to develop an eating disorder. And so it was caused by um low self-esteem um and just many things.

When I was like five to like 16, 17, like finishing college, I was really badly bullied. I did not have a good relationship with my family. I didn't have a lot of friends. So I felt very out of control, like everything was against me and there was just nothing I could do about it. And I think I found that food for me was something I could control and I think that's where my cause came from, was I could control it. Nobody knew, so it was completely like up to me and for me that's just where my cause came from, I think.

Anorexia was diagnosed after I had done extensive weight loss and running, so that kind of led to some unhealthy behaviors to where it kick-started my anorexia from some old habits. Also, I think what led me a little bit was not wanting to lose control and some trauma issues as well too. So there's all sorts of different causes to anorexia and no one is exactly like somebody else.
