What’s your favorite thing about living in Logan?

There are lots of beautiful canyons, and campus, and Institute classes, and the Family History Center in the Tabernacle. And of course the Temple. Those are the places I spend most of my time. (Rachael, 6 months)

Logan, Utah: Crime

What’s the crime like in Logan?

No clue. Is there any? (Victoria, 5 months)
I haven’t heard. I carry pepper spray because I’m told I should, but I have yet to get even close to using it. (Rachael, 6 months)
It’s not too bad, I think students are too comfortable with leaving their doors unlocked. I also know of a few cases of cars getting broken into. (Ashley, 11 months)

Not too bad, but it seems like the west side of main street can be pretty sketchy, when you get over in Logan High area. Also the Island can be rather interesting. Mainly just low-income housing, which usually draws a different group of individuals. (McKenna, 12 years)

Any advice for people moving to Logan?

I used to live in Logan. I loved in Logan for the first ten years of my life, and then moved elsewhere, and then moved back six months ago. So I have lots of childhood memories–learning to swim at Mountain Crest, playing at Merlin Olson park in the summer, concerts at the Tabernacle. Lots of good memories. (Rachael, 6 months)
My roommates and I wanted to get out of the house one evening, so we all went up to a hike above first dam and had a great time enjoying nature and the view of the valley. It took less than an hour and was so much better than staying home and watching tv. (Ashley, 11 months)

Logan, Utah: The Future

How do you think Logan will change over the next 10 years?

I don’t expect it to change much. (Victoria, 5 months)
I have the advantage or already having seen it change over ten years, from when I moved out to now. I think it will get progressively busier. I think more people will come and live in this valley. I hope it becomes much more environmentally sustainable and healthy to do that, as people gain awareness and change t heir lifestyles to help our health and the health of our planet. It seems to be growing, but not very fast. I hope things stay the same except I hope 200 East gets a few more lanes or lights so it’s less crazy during rush hours. (Ashley, 11 months)

Welcome to White Trash Valley! We’re book ended by box stores. Downtown is all but dead. Crappy new builds are sprawling out in all directions… Sadly, Logan passed the tipping point of smart, preservation planning. Now it’s all downhill with unchecked growth and the eventual eradication of everything that once gave the Valley it’s charm and character. (Jessica, 20 years)
