Watch VideosOne of the really, really nice things about Weber State University, and it's growing, but it's really a student-focused university. So there are other universities, like if you're looking at Utah, for example, you have the University of Utah and Utah State University, which are land-grant universities. That means one of their primary focuses is for their faculty to do research, which is great because research is super important to benefit the world, to benefit the fields of study that these faculty are in, and I could go on and on about that. But Weber State is not a land-grant university. That means they are primarily focused on teaching and the students. The class sizes are generally going to be smaller than they are at a bigger university, and the faculty are going to focus more on the students than they are on their research, on average. Now, obviously, there are exceptions, but that's one of the big benefits of Weber State. I highly recommend it.
I love that many of the classes at Weber State are considerably smaller and it's really great that you can have smaller classes, get to know more people in your class, as well as being able to know your professor as one who personally values personal relationships, especially with teachers or other students in the sense of being able to study together and being able to get the help that you need as well as having that connection in a class I feel is invaluable and the professors at Weber State were great with that.
There's a lot of non-traditional students. Now you could look at this as a pro or a con. I think it's a great thing because you get to know students. There's a lot of students that are older, there's a lot of students that are married already, there's a lot of students with kids that are coming back to school. I think it's great because you get the benefit of learning from people of all different perspectives. There's a lot of young traditional students as well, but I think it's great to have a mix of both more than a lot of other universities. The downside to that is there isn't quite the campus life as there is at other universities, but there still are a lot of fun things to do. There's dances, there's the institute of religion, just fun things, but there's a lot of commuter students.
