Southern Utah University

One of the most awesome traditions that Southern Utah has is when you're a freshman and you get to walk under the clock and you walk towards the east to the upper quad and that kind of establishes a new chapter in the freshman's life. And then on graduation, you walk the opposite going to west and that's kind of to, you know, closing the chapter at Southern Utah and it goes right underneath the clock. And it's really awesome because it just kind of brings, you know, your full life that you have at Southern Utah into a circle.

There are a lot of fun campus traditions that we have and one of them is classic to many in Utah is where you become a true t-bird and you go to old sorrel at 12 o'clock on a on a full moon and you kiss someone. I have not become a true t-bird yet but definitely will happen someday. Another one is about a spurtle. You'll learn what that is later but the basic concept is to be able to give to people around you and that's a big campus tradition is not to just be taking in all taking all the time but to be able to give to others and that's how we'll build a better community. So those are some pretty good campus traditions we have here at Southern Utah University.

So, SU has a ton of really fun traditions. Two of my personal favorites are Paint the Town Red and Casino Night. Now, first in Paint the Town Red, that's at the end of Welcome Week. You go to downtown Cedar City, there's live bands, there's vendors, there's 180 different clubs at SU to choose from where you can meet new people with your same similar interests. And personally, that's how most freshmen like to start the year off. And at the end of the night, we all put our hands in red paint and stick them up on the wall. And it's really cool. And then the other one that I really love is Casino Night. And instead of gambling with real money, you just gamble with chips that are given to you at Casino Night. And then whatever you win at the tables, you get raffle tickets, and then you get to enter raffles for big prizes, essentially. And they do pictures and they have refreshments.
