Favorite foods
Watch VideosI love Indonesian food. My favorite food from Indonesia is probably, it's called satay. And so what satay is, it's these pieces of meat they put on these skewers. The most common ones are chicken and goat. Personally I like goat a little more, but chicken's really good too. And they grill it, and then they serve it, usually 10 in a serving, on a plate. And they add a really good peanut sauce and kecap manis, which is a sweet soy sauce. And sometimes if you want it spicy, you can have chili sauce added too. It's really good. Also, Indonesia has a lot of really good exotic fruits, like dragon fruit, star fruit, sirsap, and durian, which is probably the most controversial fruit. You'll get a lot of thumbs up and thumbs down. I personally like durian. So yeah, they have a lot of really good fruit.
Oh, the Indonesian food is so good. One of the best things is, it's called martabak, martabak manis, and it's kind of like a pancake with sweetened condensed milk and butter and chocolate and cheese, and it's so delicious and really rich. And they also have something called pisang coklat keju, which is like fried bananas, also with sweetened condensed milk and chocolate and cheese all mixed together. I also had a lot of ayam gebuk, which is fried chicken with like a mashed up spicy cashew sauce, and of course served with rice. Oh, the food is so good.
My favorite food in Jakarta is Gado-gado. So, you have to try Gado-gado. Then, Soto Ayam, Sate Ayam, Sate Kambing, Nasi Padang, and Nasi Goreng. And in Indonesia, there is a favorite fish called Ikan Mas Arsik. It's the most delicious. You have to try it.
The first one would be ayam geprek. So what that is, it's a fried piece of chicken, and then they smash it up and you tell them how many little chili peppers you want with it. And so, I mean, you can make it as spicy as you want. They smash it up and then they serve it with rice. It's super good. The second one would be esbuah. And so what that is, it's kind of like a fruit soup. They cut up a lot of different fruits. A lot of them that they don't have here in America. And then they put it in this mixture of water and sweetened condensed milk. And it's just, I don't know, I thought it was the best thing ever.
