The biggest thing I would say about the language is to not stress about it, because it will come with time. If you're just patient with yourself and if you study and try to use it the best you can and don't be afraid of making mistakes and be brave in reaching out to people, but ultimately it really will come with time. Really try to learn the language of the area because each different city has their Javanese and Sundanese and there's also Bahasa Manado, so try to learn those local languages too because that will be a fun way to connect with the people, but focus on Indonesian first.

As far as learning the language, I'd say not to stress out about it. Indonesian is really not that difficult to learn. There's not a lot of grammatical things you need to pick up on. The biggest thing is just learning vocabulary. And I think a lot of that comes from just being brave, being willing to go out and talk to everybody, to not be scared to make mistakes. The other thing I'd say that really helped me was trying to read in Indonesian right off the bat.

To learn it quicker, you need to talk to people. You're going to make a lot of mistakes, and that's okay. But the quicker you make those mistakes, the quicker you'll be able to pick up the language. So, I was pretty shy when I got there, and it took me a while to get comfortable using the language because I didn't speak it with strangers as often as I could. So that would be my advice, is to talk to people as often as you can.

Use what you know as much as you can, speak when you can, and also ask ask people for help, because the fact that you're trying to learn their language is like the best thing to them. Especially if it's the local language like Javanese, Sundanese, Basamanado, if you can say like just a few words in their language, they love it so much. So just ask for help from them, because they're more than willing to help. And a lot of them speak pretty good English too, so don't be afraid to ask for help from them. Use what you can when you can, and just be patient, it'll come.
