  • 2013-2014 (Liezel)
  • 2012-2014 (Serah)
  • 2008-2010 (Jessie)
  • June 2005-December 2006 (Divanna)

What areas did you serve in?

  • Salt Lake City and San Antonio/Boerne, Texas (Precious)
  • Beehive House, West Gate, The Square. (Liahona)
  • Only Salt Lake Temple Square (I did not serve outbound). (Christy)
  • Salt Lake and Fresno. (Liezel)
  • Salt Lake City and Niceville, Florida. (Serah)
  • Utah Salt Lake Temple Square. (Jessie)
  • Salt Lake City. (Divanna)

What were some favorite foods?

  • I love the nachos with salsa and guacamole. (Precious)
  • I missed food from home (France), but Chick-Fil-A was a good experience, plus you support a Christian fast food that does not open on Sunday. The bakery, Kneaders, have good bread and hot chocolate! For grocery shopping you can find tons of new things. It was good to have sisters from the United States to help and make us try new things! Asian Market was one of my favorite to buy food from. (Liahona)
  • Burger, burritos from chipotle, Chinese food because it has a rice. But I cook Filipino food so, yup that’s it. Oh I do love the different varieties of ice cream. (Liezel)
  • Indian rice and curry, Mexican and Italian food. (Serah)
  • Burritos, tacos, enchiladas, Subway foods. (Divanna)

What was a funny experience?

  • My funny experience was in the MTC where I burped loudly in the cafeteria and all the people were shocked for five seconds. (Precious)
  • During my first week, my companion and I were walking around and heard a loud horn noise. When we came around the corner, we saw a lady standing in front of the Temple blowing a long weird horn and wearing a shawl over her head. She then began chanting and waving her arms around. Security had to kick her off of the property. (Christy)
  • When I accidentally hand up the paper on my companion’s face while she is driving. (Liezel)
  • When I woke up and found my mouth swollen because of a bug bite and everyone thought my companion and I had a fight.. Haha (Serah)
  • Standing outside and your freezing and don’t notice that there’s something that came out from your nose. (Divanna)

What was a crazy experience?

  • The crazy and dangerous experience was when a guy pretended that he was interested with the gospel but the real thing was I reminded him of his ex-girlfriend. The other one was when a man from Poland pretended that he was my dad and he even said the name of my mom. How scary is that, right?! (Precious)
  • My companion and I were chased down the street by a homeless man yelling at the top of his lungs. We just ran back to Temple Square and called security. (Christy)
  • When we woke up at the middle of our sleep because the carbon monoxide alarm went off. I was really scared at that time because I remember my companion’s story about the missionary died in Taiwan because of carbon monoxide while they are sleeping. (Liezel)
  • One evening after dinner, we went to get ice cream and a scary anti Mormon kept following us in a tunnel that connects to the grocery store. He looked scary and also told some stuff which made us really scared. Luckily a family saved us from the situation. (Serah)
  • When we went to an abandoned building and my companion and I don’t know which way to get out and all the doors were locked…a little bit scared…good thing we prayed and while we kept on knocking someone had opened the door for us. (Divanna)

What was a spiritual experience?

  • My spiritual experience was when I was in Texas, I asked Heavenly Father to help us to find a person who would listen to us about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, and let us in to say a prayer. And we found that person. I don’t know what happened next because I was back to Temple Square. But that was very spiritual. (Precious)
  • Watching an investigator in Scotland over Skype as he was baptized. And all other baptisms we were able to witness around the world. There’s nothing more powerful than seeing the gospel spread all over the globe. (Christy)
  • I have a lot but I will share some of it. So when I was in Fresno Mission to serve outbound, I was really sad because i felt like everything that my companion and I did was still not enough because I didn’t see any success at all. So one night, I really cried to Heavenly Father and asked him why is it happening. Is our effort not enough yet. I cried for the people who rejected us and suddenly I remember what Jesus Christ’s experienced when people rejected him and even Peter denied him. I just felt peace and now I can say at least I am able to feel what Jesus felt at least 1% of the pain that he had to suffer for us. (Liezel)
  • When we taught a less active about the Atonement, she was struggling to come to church and with repentance. She thought that God didn’t love her anymore and that she is not needed in church. Once we bore testimony of this, the Spirit did confirm to all that she is loved and God wants her back. After ages, the following Sunday she came to church and that was a sweet site to witness. (Serah)
  • Every time, we plan for each day’s schedule. We prayed and at the end of the day, we didn’t realize that all of what we planned for was successful. So Prayers are best before and after doing something. (Divanna)

What are some interesting facts about the Temple Square Mission?

  • My mission is the only mission that has more than 30 nationalities and 42 languages. We are all sisters. We don’t have our own wards or branches. (Precious)
  • The only all sister missionary mission. Smallest mission boundaries in the world. Our mission is our ward for church, we are not assigned to a member ward. (Christy)
  • Only sisters. You don’t come to run into the Elders even though you live right next to where they work. Sacrament meeting is at 7:30 on Sunday morning. Relief Society is on Thursday at 7:30 am. You get to speak in front of tons of Asian guests and use a portable microphone. (Liahona)
  • The only all sister missionary mission. Smallest mission boundaries in the world. Our mission is our ward for church, we are not assigned to a member ward.
  • Temple Square Mission is not what people think…that it was so easy. People say you will just be a tour guide and things like that. But for me, it was hard also because you are not able to see the fruit of our labors…well some but mostly not. During the summer, I always felt like I am Dan Jones who shared the gospel to a group of people from everywhere. We also have the privilege to be with the youth from different stakes when they come and have youth conferences. We are able to take chats from people who had question about church and do phone calls to our investigators from all over the world. Temple square boundaries is small but we are assigned to different duties and places to share the gospel while showing them around. (Liezel)
  • It’s the smallest mission in the world. It’s the only all sister mission where all leadership positions are given to sisters. We teach in different languages, however, the mission language is English. We get the best of two worlds to work as a visitor sister and proselyting. (Serah)
  • Safest mission in the world.. we meet anti Mormons who love to debate.. no young Elders…only senior couples…missionary ward. AP’s DL’s ZL’s are all Sisters..no knocking on doors but we have 2 mission calls…  and Temple Square Mission and the other mission to get to serve to experience a proselyting mission. (Divanna)

What was the weather like?

  • My mission has four seasons, so I love it. (Precious)
  • Four seasons. Can be very hot during summer and super cold during winter. There is a lot of snow (like A Lot)! I enjoyed early morning during spring. (Liahona)
  • Warm in the summer and very cold in the winter. (Christy)
  • I love the four seasons. I realize that they have different beauty that you just need to appreciate. (Liezel)
  • Dry and hot during summer and very cold in the winter when it snowed. (Serah)
  • Freezing!… since I am from the Philippines.. But I love the spring and autumn. (Divanna)

Any things you really like about the area/people?

  • The people are more appreciative and very positive in spite of their challenges. The spirit is so strong every day because you can always see the Salt Lake City Temple. (Precious)
  • You never get bored, they are coming from everywhere. You get to meet the world. (Liahona)
  • It’s the most unique mission in the world. You make friends from all parts of the world. You learn to love people even though your conversations are all translated. (Christy)
  • I love temple square so much because of the beauty of it and the strong Spirit that you can feel. And we are all sisters so that’s really fun to be with them. In Fresno, I loved seeing the vineyards and roses and the members that are willing to help us in doing missionary work. (Liezel)
  • People were really friendly and were always nice to us. (Serah)
  • I love them all…you got to learn different cultures, foods, and behavior. (Divanna)

Any packing/clothing advice?

  • Just bring the things that you need the most. (Precious)
  • Four seasons clothing. Don’t worry about not bringing this or that, between 200 sisters, you’ll find what you really need :). (Liahona)
  • Pack modest clothes. Don’t try to justify. (Christy)
  • Just follow what’s in the manual. If you feel like bringing a lot of clothes, do it. (Liezel)
  • My mission had it’s own Deseret Industries Thrift Store which helped. Few shirts, skirts and jackets help. (Serah)
  • We were advised to dress neat and clean… iron your clothes.. and make sure you Look Modest and presentable as an ambassador of the Lord. (Divanna)

What blessings did you receive from serving a mission?

  • I was able to learn how to deal with any kind of people. I had self confidence. And the spirit is so sensitive. (Precious)
  • I can’t list them all. I met and made eternal friends. Some sisters became my family. I got to speak the language of the Prophets. I have international experience and can deal with people from almost any country. My life changed because of the people I met there, I am on a totally different path than I planned on. I got to experience what real Love is, the love of the Savior is. (Liahona)
  • I gained a plethora of skills I didn’t have before. Conversion to the gospel. Happiness. (Christy)
  • Well, sometimes I asked myself what blessings, but the mission itself is a blessing for me. I was able to know more that this church is true. My testimony became firm and stronger. My family is blessed in different ways. I am healthy and I have job. (Liezel)
  • So many. When I saw people changing, that was a blessing and because of my mission, I was able to change and become a better daughter of God. (Serah)
  • I got married in the temple to the right man…I have a wonderful son..and my life is just great..and I realize how the Lord has Blessed me with all… beyond my expectation. (Divanna)

What are some skills you gained?

  • I’m able to speak English with an accent (Hahahaha). (Precious)
  • Public speaking. Teaching. Translating and interpreting. Adaptability. Read non verbal communication. ‘Read’ verbal communication (when teaching over the phone and you don’t see the other person). Planning. (Liahona)
  • Communication. Secretarial skills. Organization. How to motivate others. How to study. How to set goals. How to teach others. Lots and lots of people skills. (Christy)
  • Documenting things, to be more flexible, understanding the different cultures, being patient and to see people that they are my brothers and sister’s though we have different races. I am not shy now to ask and share my opinions… not like before. I am confident now 😉 (Liezel)
  • Cooking, talking to many people, leadership qualities. (Serah)
  • Communication skills….hehe…I was able to gain more confidence in talking to people. (Divanna)

What do you wish you knew/did at the beginning of your mission?

  • Spanish and Preach my Gospel (Precious)
  • Where to find the good food that I need. (Liahona)
  • I wish I knew how physically demanding it would be. I wish I had prepared a recipe book. (Christy)
  • Well I prepare myself carefully, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually don’t think anything. I reads books that help me to become prepared. (Liezel)
  • Budgeting money. (Serah)
  • To gain and strengthen my testimony about the Savior and his Gospel. (Divanna)

Any advice/testimony for pre-missionaries called to Temple Square?

  • Do all you can! Forget yourself and go to work so that when you finish your mission there is no regrets! Have smart goals. (Precious)
  • You can’t prepare in just 3 months. The MTC helps but the real MTC is at home. Fix yourself the goal of not giving up and stick to it. Your hardest times are the times you are shoulder to shoulder with the Savior of the World. (Liahona)
  • Don’t think that because you’ll be on Temple Square it’ll be easy. It is NOT a cushy mission. But be prepared to rise above and not get angry at the many people you’ll meet who will feel otherwise. Be physically prepared for long hours and being on your feet all day. Get comfortable with saying “hello”, smiling at, and talking with literally everyone you meet. Be obedient, it makes your mission a happy mission. Don’t think that because you’ll be on Temple Square it’ll be easy. It is NOT a cushy mission. • Be flexible and enjoy the opportunity to be in Temple Square Mission. Love all your companions and be open with them. Love all the people that will come and enjoy taking tours. Your testimony will be tested so be firm. (Liezel)
  • Study Preach My Gospel and be exactly obedient in every way. Blessings and miracles comes through it. (Serah)
  • Prepare yourself mentally, physically, financially, emotionally and most of all spiritually…your life will be much better if you focus on your goals and serve the Lord with all thy heart might, mind, and strength. No regrets at all…this will be one of your greatest once in your life experiences. (Divanna)

What was a funny language mistake?

  • I tried to speak Cantonese, and I didn’t notice that I made a high pitch in a specific word and the Chinese visitor reacted and said (that is a private part of a woman) and I froze. (Precious)
  • The first time my companion from Chile and I took a tour, I would look to her when it was her turn to speak. She never made a mistake, because she refused to speak. She would just look at me like a deer in the headlights and shake her head “no”. By the end of the transfer, she was fluent. 🙂 (Christy)
  • Well, I personally tried to speak a simple greetings in different languages based on my companion’s native language. Mostly Spanish people thought I could speak their language because of my last name so I always say no hablo enpañol pero soy bonita. (Liezel)
  • Surrounded with international sisters…I think hearing Sisters from different countries with their accents and intonations is funny…I laugh at mine as well. (Divanna)
