What’s your favorite thing about living in Boise?

How friendly and family-oriented it is. (Jennifer, 2 years)
The Greenbelt, walkability of downtown. (Andrea, 7 years)
I was born here in 1947, left in 1962, I’m back now five months a year. Ridge to Rivers trails. (Davis, 15+ years)

What’s your least favorite thing about living in Boise?

Conservative people holding us back from infrastructure and transportation updates. (Andrea, 7 years)

The constant road construction that is never where it seems we need it the most (like better intersections at major on/off ramps from the highway), lack of retail shopping choices, such as an outlet mall. (Kim, 23 years)

Boise, Idaho: Crime

What’s the crime like in Boise?

Pretty low in most areas. (Jennifer, 2 years)
Scale 1 – 10 (10 being Southside Chicago) — 4. (Andrea, 7 years)
What crime? It’s only there in the papers and I ignore it. (Davis, 15+ years)
Really low on crime. Being a victim of petite thefts seems to be unavoidable. (Mesha, 17 years)
Minimal, often non-violent offenses such as theft, etc. Boise’s not as safe as it used to be, but I still don’t feel threatened walking at night. (Kim, 23 years)
It’s changing quickly in and around the city. When I first moved here the local news stations only had good news to report. Now there are a lot of news stories about crime, etc… (Heidi, 25 years)

I sometimes go and visit the graves of my great great grandfather and relatives at the Pioneer Cemetery. Illustrating what bollards would so for 8th Street. (Davis, 15+ years)

Boise, Idaho: The Future

How do you think Boise will change over the next 10 years?

Too many people will move here. (Jennifer, 2 years)
More building, less open lands. More undesirable areas will become gentrified. My hope is that it comes with better public transportation, and high wages, so those pushed out won’t suffer. (Andrea, 7 years)
Better bicycling town. (Davis, 15+ years)
Hopefully it won’t change too much. I imagine it’ll get bigger, more impersonal and traffic will be terrible. (Mesha, 17 years)
It will grow! I think Boise and surrounding areas have been projected to double in the next 10 years. (Kim, 23 years)
I think it will deteriorate. There will be more crime and homelessness. I think the city needs to really acknowledge there is a problem and make a plan to fix it. I also think it will become more crowded and we’ll see air quality change. (Heidi, 25 years)
Depends on our choices… Hopefully we’ll make downtown more accessible to walking, bicycles and mass transit. Have less space reserved for parked cars. (Debbie, 28 years)
