  • It like any other community, I get angry with the news media they will report a crime in Kearns, when it is really in West Valley, West Jordan or Taylorsville- the reason for this is that folks don’t know where the boundary lines are. Often depending on which side of the street you’re on depends on what community you are really in. We do have gangs out here, but the community tries to stay on top of the hot spots. (Mel, 38 years)

  • It’s history most of the stuff you find on the internet is wrong, because people went by hearsay and a lot of guess work. The Kearns Historical Society is owned and ran by a private citizen of Kearns who had located the lost history on their own and had brought it home again. For the past 10 years Kearns has had a museum but only for a day. We are lucky in that we get to see this history, and have been lucky to watch it grow each year. All this stuff had never been seen until we started having our museum for a day. Growing up in Kearns as a kid we were always told it would be impossible to ever locate the history, we not only located it, but we have been able to meet some of the Camp Kearns men and women. Some of the items were giving to the founder of the Kearns Historical Society directly from the men she could find. The community was established over the remains of a temporary WWII Base known as Camp Kearns, named after Senator Thomas Kearns. When the war ending and the base closed that was when the history became lost because the military took all their records and documents with them, those items were sealed and kept out of public view. It wasn’t until the official Kearns Historian also the individual who owns the Kearns Historical Society, through her research discovered that Camp Kearns was a sub project to the Manhattan Project, the records were unsealed, and she was able to obtain copies of those records.
