⭐ Top Interviewers ⭐Advice for getting started
Watch VideosOkay, my advice for getting started to be a substitute teacher is to simply go to the school district. They will give you all the answers and be so helpful. That's what I did, I went straight in and they handed me a packet to fill out. This will be different depending on school district, where you live, state, country. All this will be different, but the school district is so helpful and will guide you through every step of the way. Some school districts and states require you to have a substitute license, and so some of those are required. Sometimes they're not, sometimes you have to get just written letters from people you know. So yeah, that's how you get started.
I decided to apply to be a substitute teacher back when COVID was a big deal and there was a big need and demand for substitute teachers. And I had to do an online application, I think it was at like desi.gov or something, Department of Education, something like that. But once you get your application approved by the Department of Education, and you know, you can reach out to the school district office to see what else you need to do to get hired. I think here in Missouri, at least, we had to, I had to have a college degree. I think they sent my transcript. But once you get approved and become a substitute teacher, I'd recommend that you make contact with the secretaries for any of the schools that you're interested in subbing for. Introduce yourself and you can let them know that you're available and what time frames, what days and times of the week you're available to sub.
Okay, so I recently returned home from a mission for my church and I was going to start school in just a couple months and so I didn't really know like what I could do for work that would be flexible enough that I could just do it for a couple months and then move to college and so I was able to find this app called Senya and it basically is an app that's used by private schools primarily to find substitutes and it's super flexible, it's awesome, you really create your own schedule so they just post subbing needs as they come up and you can schedule them either like several weeks out or you can even schedule them like a day before or even the morning of if you want to and then you can kind of choose where you want to go like which schools you want to sub at and the pay is really good so I would really suggest using Senya, I had a great experience with that app.
Ask the teacher which students can help you. When you understand who can help you and which staff can help you, it makes things a lot easier, a lot smoother, and you don't have to worry so much about classroom management. Do your best and let the rest help you. Remember, you are a community, not a substitute loner teacher.
