Advice for getting started
Watch VideosI've actually done a lot of product design in my line of work. I've done UX, I've done product management, I've kind of been all over the place in that realm of things and I think the best thing you can do to get started is start designing programs that are necessary for you. Give someone a prototype of, you know, something that you build. Build your portfolio. I think the best thing is to show that you can think through problems and think through design problems, think about best practices, think about how you use components and things like that, I think is a very vital point of what they want to see when it comes to a product designer. I also think that when you're working on something very niche and very hard then it shows that you're going to be able to do a good job.
A lot of people think that, especially when I've interviewed for a position for someone coming into UX, a lot of people think that they're, you know, creative and that's all great, but really the most important thing when it comes to product design is showing that you're able to understand a problem and dissect that problem and show how you can give that result. Obviously, you know, your design skills are good, you don't be a little creative, but I think a lot of people focus too much on the creativity and not enough on the problem solving because that's really what they're hiring you for. They're not hiring you to not only just make it look pretty, they are doing that, but that's mostly secondary comparatively to the problem you're solving and how you get that solution.
