One of the crazy stories I've experienced as a physician assistant involved the patient. As I was talking about his cholesterol, I mentioned that fish could be a good source of omega-3s to help his cholesterol. The patient then responded, does it have to be fish? I then asked him if he had an aversion to fish and the patient went on to tell me that he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam and during his time there he was forced to eat rotting fish with maggots during his time in the POW camp and then asked him how he escaped and he reported that during the change of the guard he and the other prisoners decided they were going to escape and so those who were too weak to get out laid themselves across the barbed wire and the others crawled across those other prisoners to get out and then they were able to get into the jungle to be rescued. Kind of a crazy story. You never know what you're gonna hear when you're visiting with patients.
