So to become an orthopedic surgeon, you typically have to go through four years of undergraduate school, then you would go to four years of medical school, and at the end of your medical school, you would submit for the match, which would then put you into an opportunity to go to several different residency programs. Once you match into a residency program, that program is typically five years long, some are up to six, and then about 93% of orthopedic surgeons end up doing a fellowship in addition, which is an additional year. So if you do some quick math, it's four years of undergrad, four years of medical school, five years of residency, and a year of fellowship. It's a long time.
