So I spoke on this briefly in my other video. I talked about the National Speakers Association. There's one chapter here in Utah. It's called the Mountain West Speakers. There's chapters all over the United States. But this is an amazing association where you can learn how to build a business as a speaker. There's also Toastmasters out there. So there's Toastmaster chapters everywhere in the United States and all over the world. And Toastmasters is a great way to start working on your platform skills, how to be a better speaker, and also maybe even building a speech. But NSA, the National Speakers Association here in the United States, is a great resource because what they do is help you build a business. But the networking alone is amazing. And so I go to these conferences every year that NSA does, which is called Influence. And so you need to go to these in-person events and start learning from people who are the best in the world who are doing it already. That's really important to me, surrounding myself with the people who are doing it.

I'd like to recommend to you some resources that might help you in your efforts at becoming a motivational speaker or keeping your career going if you are already one. That would be to join your local National Speakers Association chapter. That's where all the speakers get together and learn about the business and help each other and truly it's a community that's unique, it's awesome. They also have the National Speakers Association National Membership and in fact I'm so excited because I'm going to their conference very soon. That's awesome and so I would say that you need to have that as a resource for yourself. I would also say to look at and model the types of speaker you want to be. Look at those people out there. There's a ton of them. I mean people that are great examples, people that live their life the way that you want to live your life. I know some of mine would be Clint Pover, John Maxwell, and Chad Hymas.

There's so many ways to get out there and find resources for speaking. I think the most important resource that you could ever look into is finding a mentor or a coach. That's one of the things that I did is I found somebody who was doing what I wanted to do as a speaker and I went to them. When they started offering a workshop, I was the first one to sign up and his name was Jason Hewlett and he was a great mentor to me and still is and I took his coaching program after we did the workshop itself. But my friend, Clint Pulver, who you've probably seen on here as well, he talks about having a board of mentors, people that you can go to so that you can work your material out with them and speak to them. There's also what is called heroic public speaking. There's also great books out there. There's podcasts. There's so many things out there that you can start absorbing right now and the best thing for me also is joining NSA, the National Speakers Association, where I met all these amazing speakers and friends.

If you're looking for really cool resources and you're kind of asking yourself, how do I become a professional speaker? One thing I've always learned is that if you want to get good at basketball, you got to hang out by the hoop. If you want to be a great wrestler, then you hang out by the mat. It's the same thing with professional speaking. If you want to be a great speaker, then hang out where the speakers hang out. And there's two great places to start. The first is NSA. That stands for the National Speakers Association. And the second is Toastmasters. NSA focuses on the business of speaking, as well as the craftsmanship, but really the overall business side of speaking. And then the second aspect, Toastmasters, is all about how to present, how to take people on a journey, how to tell a better story, how to use your hands, where to stand, how to use voice inflection. Those two resources are really great. Also, there's amazing podcasts.
