A common misconception in the marketing world and one that I believed before I started studying and working in marketing was the idea that it's just a creative job, as in you have to come up with these really good ideas on how to advertise to specific people and how to be a really good graphic designer and things like that, but there's a lot more analytics involved and talking to people and coming up with good strategies on who to target and how to position your product. Understanding data is a lot more involved in marketing than what you would think.

You're trying to trick people into buying products or you're really trying to like almost swindle them and that's really not true. I've only seen people that are trying to get people to buy products that they really believe in or that you think will better their lives. If they weren't a good product then they're not going to sell and that's the root of it. So it's fun to be able to be with a company where you really stand behind the product and really believe in it. I think that makes all the difference. It makes marketing exciting and you're eager to learn more.

There are a lot of common misconceptions in marketing but another one that I would like to discuss is the idea that marketers are these people who are only interested in your money and are willing to do whatever it takes including lying and cheating to get that money. Marketers are just trying to portray a product that will help you in your life and people don't understand that and that's something that you will have to accept as a but as you do your best to portray products and services accurately you'll find a lot more success than trying to deceive and cheat people out of their money.
