Architectural Designer

I got my first job at an architectural firm when I was 21. I had a friend who worked for this firm and I was able to get a job being a runner, which is not the most glamorous job, but it was a way to get my foot in the door. So I picked up lunches and took out the trash and pulled weeds and things like that. But after about seven months, I was able to move out of that position into a architectural intern position. And after about three years working in historic preservation, I moved to a different company for financial reasons and really have enjoyed working in multi-family housing, which is what I've done for the last year. My recommendation to anybody is get your foot in the door whatever way you can and show them what you're capable of and you'll get a better job.
