Why is it that this random romantic language, Latin language, is sitting in the middle of Eastern Europe, surrounded by Slavic languages, by Hungarian, Turkish, all of these different languages that are not descended from Latin? Romania actually used to be a kingdom known as Dacia. This was back before the Roman Empire, and when the Romans invaded, a pocket of Romanian peasants stayed there, even after the Roman Empire fell. So Romania became this sort of Romania, Rom-ania, because the peasants there maintained that love and respect for where they came from. So that's why Romania is this weird descendant from Rome, next to Russia.
