Peru has an extremely rich and deep history prior to, during, and following the colonization of Central and South America by the Iberian nations and Portugal and Spain. But definitely within the past 30 years, there has been a lot of civil unrest. Within the past two or three years alone, every president since 1990 has been accused of, and is in the process of going to trial for accusations of corruption, of bribery, of taking advantage of the system for their own economic means. So because of that, the Peruvian people have a great skepticism of their political leaders. They just expect, it's common knowledge that their political leaders are corrupt. That's the perspective they have. So be careful about engaging in or allowing yourself to talk about politics with them.
