Over like 90% of the population speaks Guarani in addition to Spanish. So when you're in Paraguay you will hear a ton of Guarani and it's usually not one or the other, it's usually mixed together. They speak a mix all the time. So you learn words definitely. When I was there I didn't learn very fluently Guarani but you learn different words and stuff you can throw in because that's everyone speaks there. So that's something that kind of sets it apart from other countries in Latin America.
Learn Guarani. Guarani is the other official language of Paraguay, Spanish and Guarani, but Guarani is so important to them. It's a really deep part of their culture identity, and so the more you know, the more you'll be able to connect with them. And they also speak Yopra, which is like a mix of Guarani and Spanish, which is what you'll hear probably the most often. But just love their language and learn. It's really hard, but it's really fun. It's a really fun Indian language.
It's so important to use the hour a day to study the language. Study the language, but don't only use just that hour to study it. Make sure that you study it throughout the day. Work on vocab, work on practicing teaching, ask the members. Though their Spanish isn't 100% accurate most of the times grammatically, they're going to be able to help you. I also have such a most important to work on Spanish, but learn as much Guarani as you can. I have had so many experiences that are so tender in my heart from being able to communicate with people that did not speak Spanish. They spoke Guarani, and so by being able to bear my testimony or teach a concept or whatnot or even just greet them in Guarani, I was able to feel so much of the love that our savior has for each and every one of his children. Learn the language and continue to study it. It'll bless your life and many.
Duolingo is a huge help. Duolingo has both Spanish and Guarani on it, but Spanish I would start with first because that goes English to Spanish on Duolingo. If you want to learn Guarani, you have to do it Spanish to Guarani, so that's the only way you can learn Guarani on there, is if you do it through the Spanish side.
You just know there's a lot of languages, and depending on what area you're in, you'll always be able to use Spanish, but you might need to pick up more of another language. Guarani is going to be everywhere. There's even an area that speaks German. There is these border towns that there's a lot of Portuguese there, and if you want to speak to any of the Brazilians, if you can learn Portuguese, that'll be a lot better. So, just speak as much as you can, and do not forget to study daily. I carried around a notebook and wrote down new words I learned. That helped a lot.
