Culture tips - Paraguay Video Transcripts

It's definitely a different culture than in the States. People are a lot more open and like everyone's family. You can just be walking down the streets and people are like, Mi hija! You know, like, my daughter. Like, people are very friendly. I remember one time in a lesson we were sitting there and literally the woman just whips her boob out to start breastfeeding her baby, which I wasn't really accustomed to being so modest here in the States, but it's just completely normal, natural there. Also, Guarani, like the native language is huge and people will love you and adore you and just really be more open if you learn even just a few Guarani phrases to use when speaking to them. It really makes a big difference.

Paraguayan culture is the best. The people are the best, so loving. That's the thing I miss the most because they're so willing to talk to you. You can just be on the street waiting for a colectivo or just passing through a neighborhood and people will talk with you even if they're just sitting under their tree. I would say one of the biggest things is just to be really considerate in the fact that Guarani is another language that they have in Paraguay and that if you do your best to try to learn at least a few phrases, that's a way that you can connect with the people and how they can see that you truly want to learn about them. So doing that, making sure to eat everything, be really considerate, generous, and kind, and thankful, and then you'll just be great.

For me, the culture of Paraguay, I love it. I love the culture because the people there are so nice. They're so nice and so humble. You need to be like a Paraguayan. You need to talk like them. You need to hang out like them. You need to joke with them. When I was able to connect with them was based off the culture. I tried to live in their culture. Not do everything, but just try to do the best. And I loved being able to joke around with them, sit down, and just talk and listen to their stories and whatever they had to say. Because that's their culture.

Paraguayos are very friendly people, they're very open to talk to whoever, and it's not like America where people are really closed off and don't, they just want to do their own thing. Like, Paraguayos, they love getting to know other people. Also, Guarani is a really big thing, like, that's their second, that's one of their main languages, Spanish and Guarani. And so, they will absolutely love you if you speak even a little bit of Guarani to them. If you just say some random phrases, they'll think you're the best person on earth, and they'll be so amazed.

It's really, really hospitable. The people are really loving, for the most part. They're really kind. You can strike up a conversation with random people pretty easily. The culture of Guarani there is huge. So if you go, you have to learn Guarani. People love you a million times more. If you know Guarani, even if you know a few words, they're going to be like, oh my gosh, they're fluent. Guarani is really important. So learn Guarani, eat all the food they give you, and compliment them on their food. Play with the kids. Learn to pass a soccer ball, even if you can't do much, just a little bit.
