Negative experiences on social media - Media Video Transcripts

When I was in like end of elementary school, middle school also, I used Snapchat a lot and I really wish I didn't. It's just kind of dangerous, the fact that like your picture can delete itself, so it really just incentivizes kids to send whatever they want and that could be bad. I also saw a lot of like cyberbullying through Snapchat, through like the chatting aspect of it. It created kind of a problem on my middle school, so I would just say Snapchat in general just did not have a very good experience.

Something that I've noticed is just an over-dependence on media in my life. Growing up I never had social media and so it was like pretty easy to use it at first without relying on it too much, but I've noticed it's just something that I turn to when I need a distraction or I'm bored or I'm trying to escape something or I am anxious, like it's something that I turn to rather than turning to healthier ways of coping and I think that's a really big drawback about social media and something that I try to be more conscious of and so I frequently do social media fasts because I think it really just helps me to ground myself and to remember that social media isn't the answer to those problems, but that it's a tool that can be used for good and to connect with people, but it needs to be used in the right way.

I don't get it as much as obviously influencers or people like that, but everybody likes to be a bully on social media and social media can cause a lot of those behaviors to come out of others. So comments sometimes are not very kind and you remember those mean comments more than you remember the positive comments and that's happened to me before. So try to just be kind on the internet.

Social media is best used when it's not like a constant use. So honestly, negative experiences, I would say in general, it's a negative experience. If you're scrolling ever, that's bad. So I'd recommend use it to post and upload, but don't use it to scroll on a feed, read a book.

I think there's definitely a lot of negative experiences that people have on social media. I know for me when I first started getting social media I was in middle school and that was kind of before people really knew like the effects that social media can have on people so I think I would suggest getting it a little later in life but um I just remember middle school. Middle school is already brutal in itself just being in person people are awkward and they don't really know how to fit in and it ends up people bullying other people or being rude um so I feel like that was like 20 times more on social media um so that's just like one negative thing that I can think of but also if you just go in the comments of any viral video there's always gonna be so many negative comments which is just kind of sad.
