Advice for newlyweds - Marriage Video Transcripts

I've been married for a year and a half, so I guess I'm still technically a newlywed, but a piece of advice I would have is to always, always, always set aside time for each other. It's gonna be so easy to do that probably like the first like six months that you're married because you're like obsessed with each other, but when you start getting into like work and you start getting into like this schedule and this groove and if you have school and whatever or like when you have kids, like anything like that, like your time just like you have to divide it out some more and so it's important to always set aside time for each other, like go on a date once a week. I just think it's really important because it really helps your relationship grow and that bond stay strong because when you are strong you're able to conquer more things together.

My advice for newlyweds is to always be on the same team. Remember that when you guys are arguing, usually there's a problem that you're trying to solve. Be on the same team trying to solve that problem.

Being a newlywed is super fun but can also be super challenging in that sometimes your expectations are not met. I think my advice would be to be really forgiving of each other and of yourself. Talk a lot. Don't expect your spouse to understand what you're thinking because most likely you have no idea what he's thinking and he might have no idea what you're thinking. So talk about it and just be very patient with yourself and with your spouse. It can be super super awesome.

My name is Jeff Hill and I have well more than 40 years experience with marriage. And my advice for newlyweds is to develop the virtue of patience. It takes eternity to develop an eternal marriage. So just be patient. I often use the maxim to just give your spouse 10 faults. Don't try to correct them. Please remember the only person that you can change is yourself. And finally, as a newlywed, be sure to put God first in your marriage. As both you and your spouse look towards God, the Spirit will bring you closer together, will help you solve problems, and you'll feel that sweet, sweet connection that is so sweet in marriage.

When you get married, get married in the temple. That is what me and my husband Jay did. It is wonderful. It's a great feeling to know of being married together forever. You would love it. It's the best thing.
