Causes
Watch VideosI have had a kidney stone before. I had it when I was 19 or 20 years old. I believe they are genetic and both of my parents have had a lot. I have a grandma and a grandpa on opposite sides of the family who've had, you know, almost a dozen. So I'm in essence just destined to have a lot throughout my life. But this time in particular, I believe I bought some protein powder and I was unaware that it had creatine in it, which is supposed to like promote muscle growth or something like that. But you're supposed to drink a lot of water when you have it. And I did not know, so I was not drinking enough water. And I believe that caused buildup in my kidney and I had a kidney stone and it was not fun. It was very painful.
So kidney stones can be caused by a few different factors or just like a mix of a bunch. I do know that sometimes it has to do with like your family history, like if they have had kidney stones in the past and it can be like hereditary. It could also be because you're just super dehydrated so make sure to drink water. And it could also just be because you're either exercising too much or too little. So honestly it could be just a mix of just a bunch of random things. Or it could be because it runs in your family.
So I've had kidney stones since I was like 11. If that doesn't tell you how good my diet is, I don't know what will. The doctors always said it had to do with a lack of water or sodium. And so that would be coming from soda, monster energy drinks, energy drinks of really any kind, or Gatorade. Gatorade was a big one. There was a point where I had two kidney stones back to back because I was drinking a lot of Gatorade at one point. But it has to do a lot with calcium deposits and sodium and a lack of water and like a lack of really good diet. So you gotta be really careful with what you put in your body because it could produce some pretty nasty stones of death.
So don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that my kidney stone, after it got analyzed and was found to be calcium deposits, pretty sure that my kidney stone was caused by lack of drinking water. I also add to the mix that I was in one of the most stressful periods of my life, and so stress does really bad things to our body, and a scientist or my doctor told me that my stress probably didn't cause my kidney infection and subsequent kidney stone, but I also know my body and I know that stress is not a good thing, so I would encourage you to drink your water and take time for yourself. Nourish yourself, because you matter.
