Languages in Ireland and Scotland are pretty much the same as in North America. They speak English for the most part, although with the accents you might wonder if they really are speaking English. In Ireland they speak Irish, which is a language they're trying to bring back. In Scotland they speak Gaelic, which when it's translated means Irish, although the two are quite different dialects, and I'm not sure they can understand each other. Most people can speak English, unless you go out into the moors and the backlands, or backwoods, I guess. The accents can be pretty thick, and you'll find that people in one area, especially in Ireland, which is where most of our experience is, they cannot understand each other even though they are speaking English. So, enjoy!
