When it comes to the culture of Ireland, it is very similar to England. People are proud of their country just as you are proud of your own, so it's best not to ridicule. Your best thing would be to be amazed because their culture is very deep, goes back thousands of years. It's not uncommon to drive by buildings that are a thousand years old and are occupied. In Northern Ireland, you do not discuss religion or where a man works. You don't ask him what he did for a living because there's still some animosity there between the two major groups which are loosely Catholic and Protestant.

In Ireland, in the Republic, they use kilometers and euros, and Northern Ireland, at this point in time, use miles per hour and British pound. So the currencies are different and the speed limits are different, even though the sign looks the same. Funny enough, they use the same round signs with the speed limits on them. If you're new to driving in Ireland, the first thing you will notice is that they all drive on the wrong side and your steering wheel is on the wrong side. It takes about a year to get to driving without thinking about it and driving on the right, on the correct side of the road. One other thing, be careful when you're doing the speed limit if you don't know where you've been because those speed limits sometimes are very high compared with the actual road conditions.
