Thoughts on the purpose of life - English Video Transcripts

The word of God said the harvest is many but the laborers are few and I believe this is the purpose of life. The harvest is the soul of men and the laborers are those bringing men's God. Now where do we come in? There is a battle going on between good and evil, between light and darkness, between the angels of God and the agents of darkness. We must choose side. Anyone who is not working for God is definitely working for the devil. There is no middle man in this world. In this world, our spiritual eyes need to be open. The only opportunity we have as human beings is the life within us. After this life is taken away, which we don't know when, comes judgment. We need to wake up as Christians and know that the devil is after our soul. He wants us to die in the flesh without knowing the light of God which is in us.

The purpose of this life is to grow and to develop and to gain experiences and knowledge so that when we return to live with God we can bring all of that knowledge with us as well as come back being better than we were before and to become better and more Christ-like.

So I get this question a lot, especially among my many atheist friends and people that aren't of our faith. And I always like to tell them that the purpose of life is to prepare to meet God. It's where we're here to learn, develop, overcome trials, and essentially just help others, be of service to other people as they go through life, and strive day by day, step by step, to become more like a father in heaven. Because when we go to heaven, we won't just be sitting around playing harps in the clouds. We'll be doing what he does, and that's just a really cool thought. Thank you.

For me, the purpose of life comes through my beliefs as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And a main part of that purpose for me is to become like my Savior Jesus Christ through learning and through growing and going through challenges and to find joy. That's to me the purpose of life. But another part for me is that every single one of us has a different purpose while we're here on earth. We're all so unique and we have different abilities and talents and I think another purpose is to know and learn how to use those for the benefit of us and for the benefit of as many people around us. And so that's to me what the purpose of life is.

Obviously, I want to say that I'm the smartest and I know it all, but I think one of the biggest things that we can do in this life is emulate a Christ-like example and serve others. And as we serve others, I think it is the best way to bless our own lives.

The purpose of life, this question's been bothering people for a long time, but we're really fortunate in the church to have a plan laid out. The plan being that we're supposed to come here and we're going to face a lot of experiences, a wide breadth of things. We're going to have a lot of choices to choose good, to choose evil. There's a whole range of things in right? So I think one of the purposes of life is to be able to learn to distinguish from those choices in between. All these ambiguous choices, the gray, it's just not black and white. So yeah, I think it's to deal with a lot of ambiguity and complexity and learn how to navigate that.

I think part of the purpose of life is for us to learn. It's for us to experience making choices and being on our own away from the presence of God and building relationships. I think that relationships are a huge purpose of our life on earth and having families and making friends and learning and choosing good over bad. I think all of those are purposes of life. I think another one is for us to learn how to have faith and learn how to rely on Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

The purpose of life is for us to change, to grow, to become something. We don't have to know exactly what that is. I don't have to know who I'm going to be, but I need to know what I hope to become. I want to be a good person who helps other people. I want to be happy, and I can achieve that through the atonement of Jesus Christ. He died and felt all of the pains, sins, weaknesses of every person who's ever lived on this earth. And because he did that, I have the opportunity to change, to become something more. And so my life is fulfilled by the fact that I know that through him, I can be exactly who I hope to be, exactly who I want to be, exactly who he knows I can be.

I think the purpose of life boils down to, especially as a Christian, just learning how to be more like Jesus. And what that means to me is just learning how to treat people better, learning how to be kinder to people, learning how to be more patient, and I think that's what Jesus taught was to look out for the marginalized in society, to look out for people who are outcast and left out, and through his grace, we can learn to be more kind and more patient and more like him.

I'll just give my two cents. Life is about just having joy, being happy. It's about finding cool experiences, meeting cool people, sharing what we have, putting yourself out there. It's about taking risks, being good. You know, when you do all those things, the happiness comes. That's what life's about.

I know that my purpose in life is to be able to gain experience here and learn right from wrong, be able to return to my Heavenly Father.

I feel that we got to come to this earth and be a part of Heavenly Father's children here because we wanted to progress in ways that we wouldn't have been able to without coming to earth and receiving a body. So I believe that the purpose of life is for us to be able to progress and learn how to love, to learn how to be obedient to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to prepare to one day live in heaven with our Father in heaven and with Jesus Christ and with our family someday.
Video 13 Transcript
We all have a purpose in life, but that purpose is to bring God glory and not to benefit anything in the secular world. Jesus left us with instructions because there are still those who don't understand purpose and they don't understand the call on their lives.

Life is not to just try and be perfect, right? We know the whole reason behind our existence is to become like God, right? And so the purpose of coming down here is to obtain a body that is becoming like God, because God is a physical body, and then gain all of these experiences and better ourselves to become like God. And so that's literally the entire purpose. The that's the whole purpose of life right there in a little nutshell.

I believe the purpose of life is to experience joy and this joy is not the brief thrills of life or just momentary happiness but really legitimate joy. An apostle once said that joy is powerful and focusing on joy brings the power of God into our lives and I believe that 100%. We can have and experience joy, true joy, as we follow our Heavenly Father's plan of happiness and that is the way we can live good lives and experience the best that God can give us and there's going to be a heartache and pain. None of us are going to escape this life without and without some battle wounds but that's part of the plan and with that we can know the joy is all the sweeter.

I think the biggest thing is that we're supposed to be here to grow and learn, and sometimes that includes successes and sometimes that includes failures, but the cool thing about failing is that you're still accomplishing your purpose, that you're still living and you're still becoming a better person, you're still growing and choosing to become more like Christ. So even if you're failing, even if you're succeeding, either way, you are still accomplishing your purpose. And that kind of reframed the whole thing for me, the whole concept of why we're here and whether I am a successful person or a failure, it reminds me that I am succeeding in anything that I do as long as I'm trying.

I feel like the purpose of this life is to learn and grow and to grow as close as we can to God while here and to serve our fellow man and help them in this life as well.

I believe that our purpose of life is to come and, you know, gain experiences that will bring us closer to our Savior Jesus Christ and become more like Him. I also think that we are here to learn as much as we are possible to, to be able to grow into disciples of Jesus Christ and live a life full of service, love, and joy, and to also, you know, be a part of a family unit that can be a part of, you know, you being a child of your parents or, you know, growing up and having a family of your own. But I do think that is also a key part of life is having important relationships that lift and uplift you to be more like your Savior.

I believe that the purpose of life is really just to improve yourself each and every day. In the eyes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that the way we live our lives now will have an impact on our life after we die. And so, just improvement, no matter where you start, you just always need to improve. Even if it's just little, little improvements each day, as long as you are heading in the right direction, you're going to be okay in the next life. I believe that Jesus Christ has suffered for all of our sins and afflictions that we experience in life. And so, this life is just a journey of self-improvement. And we obviously make mistakes all the time, and that's okay. As long as we continue to face the right direction, this life can be a meaningful and impactful one for us.

I believe that the purpose of life is to learn and to grow. Before, I believe that we were spirits in a pre-mortal life and we couldn't progress and so we needed a physical body and we needed to rely on our faith and our knowledge of God and of Christ and that way we'll ultimately be able to return to live with Him in heaven for the eternities.
Video 21 Transcript
I think that the main purpose of life is to be able to return back to Heavenly Father and be like Him, and I'm so grateful that we have the Gospel and the Atonement, our Savior, to help us do that.
Video 22 Transcript
Some thoughts I have on the purpose of life are that we are here to gain a body, to experience, and to learn, and to grow, and to love. And so when people don't have their purpose in life, when they don't have anyone to serve, or to love, or they don't feel a need to grow, or to learn, it really takes away a lot of joy, a lot of opportunities in life. And so that's a wonderful thing, is to realize your purpose in life, that we are children of God, and there is a real reason we are here on this earth. I can promise you that. I testify that.
Video 23 Transcript
When I think about the purpose of life, I think about getting to know my Savior, personally, in my life. And I think that's the most important thing that any of us can do, is just really get to know our Heavenly Parents and our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the deepest level that we can. I think sometimes we worry way too much about setting goals and these huge expectations for ourselves. And I know if I get too crazy making so many goals and expectations and plans for myself, it kind of has a net negative effect in my life, because when I don't meet those goals, I kind of worry that I'm not doing enough. But if I can focus on feeling the Spirit in some way every day, I know I'm building my relationship with Christ, and that's what's most important.
Video 24 Transcript
For me, and for people in my faith, we believe that the purpose of this life is to grow and become more like God, become more like Christ, and to hopefully follow Christ's example when he was on earth, become the best that we can, and that doing so God will bless us, make us happier, and reward us, and hopefully, you know, we can be like him fully one day. And so the purpose of this life is ultimately just a time to prove ourselves that we are worthy and qualified to receive the blessings that God has, and if we can do our best, and if we can keep our focus on God, even though we're going to mess up, and God knows that, as long as we can do our best, genuinely try our best, we'll get blessings that are greater than anything we can imagine, and that's kind of the purpose of life.
Video 25 Transcript
Our purpose here on earth is to learn as much as we can and grow both spiritually, emotionally, physically in knowledge and to become more like our Savior Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example. So I believe that while we're here on this earth, our goal is to become more like Him and serve others, love others, be kind to others, become as knowledgeable as we can. And I think that our purpose should be to not only want to better ourselves, but to also better those around us and make sure that everyone is striving for that perfect example that is Jesus Christ.
Video 26 Transcript
There are so many things that we can learn and experience in this life, but I think one of the most important is to continue to choose the right in the face of ambiguity, uncertainty, opposition, all of those things. I think God teaches us how to walk in the dark, to take those small steps toward the light, and to become like him through going through difficult things. I know in my life I've been able to be strengthened as I have come to understand what's important to me and as I've been able to see how I can use my talents to serve God and others, and I think that the purpose of this life is really coming to understand the way that God does and see the way that God sees to align our will with his.

To me, the purpose of life is to learn how to become like Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The only way to do that is to draw nearer to Christ by doing the things that He asks us to do. And so, that kind of makes it sound like really, really not big or hard or intense, but it takes work and hopefully it'll really make the difference.
