How the scriptures have helped me - English Video Transcripts

I have back problems that are pretty chronic and I am faced with the pain from them every day. And the first thing that comes to mind when I think of how the scriptures have helped me is how much pain relief I've gotten just by reading them. I will be reading the Book of Mormon often and the pain will go away. And that does not happen any other time because it won't go away. The doctors told me that and Heavenly Father Himself has told me that as well. And so that's the first thing I can think of. But they are always constant in giving me exactly what I need in the moment I need it. And they help me to come closer to the Savior more than anything else. They have helped me because they have brought me to know my Savior Jesus Christ. And I love Him and I'm grateful for Him and I'm grateful the scriptures do that for me.

Reading from the scriptures has been a part of my life for a long time. I grew up religious as a Christian and my parents would always study scriptures with us and I would learn about them in church and I never really understood why for a long time until I started to connect with the people in the scriptures and I realized that those were real people with real experiences and I could learn from them and even seek guidance and help as I read from the scriptures and read their stories and it's really been helpful for me to see their relationships with God and know that I can have that too and I've heard it put before that that we can talk to God through prayer that's how we communicate with Him but He communicates with us through the scriptures and it's a gift that He's given us and I felt God guiding me and helping me every time I open the scriptures there's a message just for me.

The scriptures has helped me because I know it's a vessel for God to communicate with me. I'll be reading a passage or a chapter or a verse and even though the words in it are not really what is going on in my life, I'll be able to get inspiration that is applicable to my life because of what's in the scriptures and because of the examples that I see from the people in the scriptures.

So I think scripture study is my number one way of talking to God. I have one of these Book of Mormon study journals and so I can write all of my thoughts on the outside and that's really been beneficial for me because it helps me to better apply the scriptures to my own life and to make personal connections and academic connections and my own cross references. It's really helped me to elevate my scripture study and when I focus on really absorbing the scriptures and feasting on the words of Christ rather than maybe just skimming them for two minutes before I go to sleep, I've noticed that I feel a lot closer to my Heavenly Father and it helps me to receive personal revelation much easier and that's just the way that I've found that helps.

I love the scriptures for many reasons, but one of the big ones is that scripture study has actually saved my mental health. I dealt with a lot of anxiety as a teenager and then into my young adult years, and I remember learning about the commandment to read the scriptures every day, and the commandment from the prophet to read the Book of Mormon every day. And so I started doing it, and I was able to watch not only me come closer to Christ and come closer to God, but the anxieties that I had throughout the day when different challenges and troubles came along diminished so much. It was a miracle, and it continues today. Every day that I start my morning by reading the scriptures, when troubles come, I'm able to get over them so much easier than without that influence of the scriptures.

One of my favorite scriptures is Ether 1227. It's in the Book of Mormon, and it is, it talks about how the Lord gives us weaknesses so that we can be humble, and we can turn to him and trust in his power. And if we do, he will give us that power, or he will turn our weaknesses into our strengths. And I was reading that, and as I read it this time, I was like, that I really can have my weaknesses turn into strengths, because I know I have plenty of weaknesses, and that there is so much potential for me to receive that strength from him if I try, and if I reach out to him and put my faith in him. And so I know that we can have our weaknesses become strengths, and I hope you believe that, and you can try it out for yourselves. But thank you so much for listening.

Scripture studying literally helps you connect or feel close to God whenever you read the scriptures. When you read the verses, you can imagine like how the author of the book or how the ancient prophets thought of his own circumstances and how he pleaded to God in order to get out of the trouble that he was in and how the people in ancient times were blessed by their faith and faithfulness and their loyalty or their steadfastness to keep in keeping the commandments. So you're going to learn a lot of things from the scriptures that you have a solid knowledge of who Heavenly Father is and what is the meaning to him to you.

The scriptures have helped me as I've studied them and as I've pondered them. They've helped kind of just align my life towards Christ and to make the best choices that I can. They've helped me get through times of trial and they've helped me be happy and they've really just helped me to be on top of things and keep a clear head.

The scriptures have helped me in so many different ways. Most importantly, I turn to the scriptures whenever I need something, whenever I need some help. But even especially when I'm in the temple is when I receive help a lot through the scriptures. And when I read about the experiences that faithful men in previous ages went through and the sacrifices that they made to align their lives with their faith in Jesus Christ and the gospel that they know, it's been an inspiration to me. It's given me courage. It's given me guidance on what to do and how to do things, how to react to certain situations, how to think about certain things, and how to overcome difficult trials. And that's kind of, it's like an open book of experiences that you can learn from.

Having a name Ammon, it's a name that is read in the Book of Mormon, so reading it I can really connect in a deeper sense being that I have the name, I have a name of one of the characters or prophets or missionaries in the Book of Mormon. It kind of helps me connect with it on a more personal level just because I can easier place myself in those situations what I would or wouldn't do if I were to if I were given that task or if I were to face that trial, and it kind of gives me a reassurance of who I am, why I'm named after that person, and how I can use that as a funnel for strength in these latter days.

The scriptures are, I think, one of the best ways to learn about God and how he works, how he thinks, and how we are part of his plan. And so I think on my mission as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I really dove into the scriptures and learned more about God there than I ever had in my entire life as a member. And so, yeah, I think really just diving in has helped me feel like I know him, I understand him, and can continue to.

The scriptures help me because when I'm having a difficult time, especially at work, when I'm struggling through the day and we're shorthanded and I'm worrying about things, I turn to the scriptures. Because one of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 46.1, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. God will always help us in time of trouble. So you always got to pray and read the scriptures. The scriptures will really help you when you need help. Turn to the scriptures. You can even write them on index cards and carry them in your pocket when you have a bad day. Turn to that one favorite verse and read it. God will always help you. Thank you.

Scriptures have helped me in so many ways. For example, most of the times I feel like giving up. I just lost the motivation to do something, lost the motivation to complete my assignments or be able to go to church. I remember my mum always telling me, you know, if you need help, if you need help in anything, don't stress yourself out. The scriptures are right in front of you. You have it on your hand as well. You carry your phone with you everywhere. You got to make sure you have to read your scripture every day. And with that, it's been my, it's like a routine for me now that I always have to read chapters, two to three chapters a day. I'd be able to start my day right. When I read the scriptures every morning, I feel the spirit talking to me, this is what you're going to do today.

So scripture study has been huge for me. I've really loved reading my scriptures because all the promises that we're given from the prophet and from the scriptures themselves, they're really true. They teach us how to become better and they motivate us to bring the spirit into our lives. I always find when I'm reading the scriptures I'm a better person and I can focus far more upon what's important and it kind of arms you with what you need to be able to do those things. So scripture study is awesome.

I love studying the scriptures. They are- the stories in the scriptures are just amazing. When you really understand that these people were real, and that they had families, and they had children, and people that they loved in their lives, even the like the bad guys in the scriptures, it's so inspiring. I once was talking about the scriptures, and I realized that I said something along the lines of, I know that the stories are true and real because I've lived them. And honestly, I feel like if you study them enough, they're so comparable to our own lives that we really can learn from the examples of the warriors, and the missionaries, and just the moms, and the children, and the faith of these people. They're- they're wonderful.

One way the scriptures have helped me is just by helping me feel less alone. I think sometimes as Christians, we're really different from the world, and we go through a lot of things that maybe non-Christians don't have to experience, and sometimes it can be kind of lonely. And as I read the scriptures, I'm able to learn about other people who have gone through similar challenges that I have, and I'm able to be inspired by the way that they have turned to God and sought his help and found strength and comfort. And it just inspires me to keep going and to be a support for others who may be going through similar things. I'm so grateful for the scriptures and for the way that God can speak to us through them. I know that I've felt his influence as I've studied them.

So scripture study works a little bit differently for everyone. Me, I like to think of it as a challenge to get it done in this many days. Currently, I'm working on a 100 days challenge using this little booklet I have. It tells me which chapters to read. It has an inspirational quote by a general authority and a reflection question, to which I answer in a journal that I keep for this challenge. I've been reading every day so far in this book right here. I continue to learn something new every day and I get more knowledge every day and I believe the words by the prophets are true and it's a blessing to have this book in my life. It really is.

One way that my daily scripture study has really blessed my life is a feeling of peace that I get throughout the day. I used to study my scriptures at night, and I wouldn't really get the same emphasis out of it that I do now that I study in the morning. I feel like when I study in the morning, I can feel the power of the scriptures throughout my day and not just at the end of the day when I'm kind of tired. The scriptures have been a source of peace and comfort for me in trying times, and as I've tried to overcome trials, turning to the scriptures has been a great source of strength because the knowledge contained in them offers me a better perspective on my issues than I can provide myself.

Every time I read my scriptures, even if it's just like one minute, five minutes, ten minutes, you know, even if it's way longer, like 30 minutes to an hour, it just, it makes you feel slightly lifted up, I guess. Whatever you're going through that's difficult just doesn't hurt you as much, it's not affecting you as much in that moment. It gives you a little bit of faith and hope that you're doing the right thing, God will help you out, and it just, it brings in the Spirit of Christ to change your attitude and change your mood about whatever you're going through, and it makes things, even though it doesn't take things away, it definitely makes it a little bit better than what it was beforehand.

So for me, I've really noticed a big difference when when I don't read my scriptures on a daily basis And then when I do I notice that when I read the scriptures I just have a better day, and I feel more joy in my life I can feel the the love of God on a daily basis I just have such a better day as I start off my day reading scriptures Just a couple minutes or a couple chapters. It doesn't really matter as long as we're reading the scriptures I know that we'll be blessed and that we'll we'll feel God's love and how the Holy Ghost with us constantly

I found scripture study to be a big bigger blessing in my life lately as I have been studying the scriptures more often because I've been going to BYU pathway and scripture study has blessed me as it has helped me to draw closer to the Holy Spirit and which keeps me more in tune with God and Jesus Christ and which helps me to know more of what I need to do throughout the day.

The scriptures have helped me just by kind of teaching me and making me feel good, like I know God is there for me. I've just been reading the scriptures lately on like days when I'm having a really bad day or something like that, and no matter what, it always brings me this huge sense of calm and a sense of peace.
Video 24 Transcript
Each time before I study my scriptures, I pray that the Lord will bless me with an insight, something that I need to hear and something that I need to learn. And each time he does. And so one way that scripture study blesses me is every time it reaffirms my testimony that God answers my prayers.
Video 25 Transcript
The scriptures have helped me because, or they have through inspiration, through revelation. When I am searching for an answer and when I need peace of mind, when I need the comfort of the spirit, whenever anything, I can go to read the scriptures, pray first, and I read the scriptures. And I've also heard the quote that, for you to talk to the Lord, you pray, for him to talk to you, you read the scriptures. Through reading the scriptures, so much inspiration comes, so much spirit, and maybe not inspiration all at once, but if you're really seeking, the Lord will answer you. And the scriptures are a huge blessing.
Video 26 Transcript
The scriptures have helped me with the gospel and other things because they're written down and they're not changing and we can add more scripture and there's newer scripture versus older scripture but all of it is God's word and you can see through the different prophets and teachings and writings that there is like a central author. All of it is tested by God and you can find out for yourself through scripture. It's not up to anybody else. It's just you and the scriptures and you can pray about it and you can feel the spirit and you can pray to the Lord and have your personal experience with the scriptures and it's just up to you.

The scriptures have helped me throughout my life by helping me realize that I am not alone. Even though I don't live 2,000 years ago and my living conditions and circumstances are quite different from those of the Nephites or biblical people, we all face the same trials, challenges, and tribulations. And it's helpful for me to see how others have struggled and overcome their hardships and also to help me realize that mine really aren't that bad. I haven't been tied to a ship. I haven't been persecuted by snakes. I have it pretty easy compared to some of the trials of those in the scriptures. So it helps me to put things in perspective and to know that I'm not alone and that God loves me and is there for me.

Well, the scriptures, you know, the many books of scripture out there have all helped me in so many different ways. It almost feels like every time that I need something or I'm trying to find some kind of piece of wisdom or some advice, you know, as soon as I turn to those scriptures, it's found almost immediately, which can be incredibly frustrating if I've been looking for a long time in all the wrong places, but it's also just, it's really amazing knowing that the Word of God is right there and it really does make that big of a difference.

I love the scriptures and they have often provided a lot of comfort to me. Something that I love about the scriptures is reading about other people's unique and individual circumstances and their human reactions and how they were able through the power of the priesthood or the Holy Ghost to change their natural man and become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. I just love the individuals that I feel like have become friends, whether it's Lehi or Esther or John or Paul. They all inspire me and let me know that even though I'm imperfect and make mistakes, I can pray to my Father for help. I can repent and I can learn and grow and become more like my Savior Jesus Christ and ultimately become the best version of myself.
