So I was a dentist for the U.S. Navy right out of dental school. Lots of people have done this but somewhat unique. It was a great experience for me. I served for five years as a dental officer in the Navy, got to live in two different places and worked with a ton of other dentists, specialists, and got to have a really good, well-rounded experience coming out of dental school. I worked in two big clinics, one in South Carolina with the Marines and then one in Hawaii. And I learned a lot, was able to become a much better leader, and really honed a lot of skills during that time. And I would definitely recommend looking into the military as an option for school.

I worked at a dentist office in high school. I worked for a friend who was a dentist, and I was a sterile technician, so I cleaned the dirty, bloody tools and trays after they would be used in surgery. It wasn't my favorite job. I got paid really well, and the people were great, but occasionally I had to sit in and witness wisdom teeth removals, and the dentist would have this huge, long hook about the size of that, and it was huge, and once the patient was out and they wouldn't be able to feel anything, he would just take that hook and just get under the tooth and just yeet it so hard and get it to come out of the mouth, and it was very traumatizing. It made me never want to be a dentist.
