Tips for applying to school. One would be have a great GPA. Make yourself look as good as possible on your GPA, your DAT scores. Next would be the interview process. Have some excellent interview. Diversify yourself. Make sure you show that you're well-rounded, that you've volunteered in dentistry, that you've spent time observing. Let them know that this is something that you've put time into and this is definitely what you want to do. And then I would say having an excellent interview with them is also very important. And applying to several schools. I wouldn't focus on one or two. Apply to many schools.

So one of the best tips for success as a dentist is to take great care of your patients. Get to know them, get to know what they like and make sure they understand that you care and that you're trying to treat them like you would yourself or a family member. Give them options so you can tailor different treatment options to their financial ability and as they realize how much you care they're gonna refer family and friends and it can be a great practice builder. Another tip would be as if you have a great team around you it makes such a huge difference in how enjoyable work is and so it was Warren Buffett who said and when he's hiring he hires he looks for three things. He looks for someone who has integrity, someone who has intelligence and someone who has initiative and when you have someone who has those abilities you're gonna have a fantastic team member. Another thing would be to find a good mentor especially when you're finding starting out. They will help you so much through all the questions you have.

To succeed as a dentist, it's important to learn to think like a dental patient. What's important to them? First of all, that it's as comfortable as possible, it's minimally painful, and there's a lot of tricks and tips. You can use a little vibrator tool when giving injections, using plenty of topical anesthetic, listening to the patient, so meeting with them first on their first new patient exam, getting to know them a little bit, and helping them feel at ease can help build that trust and rapport. And cost is a major concern and barrier to care for many people. That's probably why I've enjoyed working at Comfort Dental. We are a Medicaid provider, about 30% of our practice is Medicaid, and we also just help people from all walks of life and work to get a price that's lower than anywhere else so that they can help be more affordable, which is satisfying to be able to help people.

I would say that you just have to be disciplined. It's a long road to get to the point where you are a dentist. You have to go through four years of undergrad, usually doing a biology or chemistry degree. Then you have to go to four more years of dental school, which is really pretty strenuous schooling in terms of your exams and the coursework. And then when you do become a dentist and you start practicing, there's definitely times where things don't go the way that you were hoping for them to go, or the treatment isn't necessarily going as planned. And you've got to be able to kind of think on your feet and adjust and keep your cool. And that same sort of discipline is useful and necessary in those situations too. So I would say that that's probably my biggest tip in terms of success, is just being very focused and very disciplined from the start.

One of the best tips I could give for being successful in building a dental practice would be to get involved in your community, be a social person, and help with different organizations. Scouting was a big thing for me. Church was involvement. Sports, local soccer teams, and t-ball, baseball, all of those things. Helping out when you help others and you're a giving person, you'll find that people are attracted to you and will support you in your business.
