It's very difficult to give you a good practice setting recommendation because it's so individual. However, I do recommend that you learn about some of these different practice settings because there are so many. If you specialize, there's different ways you can go with that. If you're a general dentist, to name a few of the things you can do, I mean, you can be in a solo practice, you can be in a group practice, you can be in a dental service organization, a DSO, you can be an associate. There's, you can work for the, I don't want to say work for the military because they own you, but you can be in the military. You can be in an academic setting and teach or do research. You can do public health dentistry. I've had friends that have worked for in the prison or I don't know, VA dentists, Indian health service dentists. And then you can work in underserved areas too. And sometimes there's even scholarships along payoff things for that. So lots of different routes that you can go. Just depends on what your personality is.

Dentistry is awesome because it's wide open as far as what you can do. When I was first getting into dentistry, I had no idea, but you know, if you want to be a surgeon and remove cancer from people's bodies, you can do that through dentistry. If you want to be a researcher that's on, you know, the cutting edge of nanotechnology, you can do that. You want to make prosthetic replacement eyes, ears, noses for people that are missing those things from military trauma or cancer surgeries, you can do that. If you want to be an anesthesiologist and just keep people asleep all the time, you can do that in dentistry. If you want to teach, you can do that. There's literally anything that you can think of.

There's such a huge variety of practice settings out there. You can work for another clinic per se, maybe a community health clinic, and that is more like you're just an employee at the dental practice, which has its advantages. You get paid well, maybe not as well as in a private practice, but you get paid well, and you have paid time off, and you have lots of perks from working for like a government facility. Or you can work in a private practice, or there's group settings. So many different ways to practice dentistry. So you just find one that works for you. If you like running your own business, don't be afraid to own a practice of your own. If you just want to work for somebody and be able to have the freedom to move around, you can do that too. There's just so many options for you.
