The most commonly answered interview question that dental students normally get is, is why dentistry? And the students often say, well, it's because I love helping people, which is true. And in general dentistry, the more rewarding aspects of it is when you give someone a new set of teeth, like veneers or crowns on the front, or especially dentures. Dentures will, these patients have had no teeth or bond out teeth or, or missing teeth. And you give them a full set of dentures and you give them the mirror and to see that their teeth are perfect and amazing, that's probably the more rewarding aspect of dentistry that follows through with your interview question that you did in dental school.

Some of the most rewarding experiences in the history of my career have been just helping people. I would, I got to a point in my, in our practices that I could, I would choose one patient out of the year that we would do a significant treatment plan for with no charge and it was something we would get to know their story. Sometimes it was single mothers, sometimes it was elderly who were on social security with little or no dental benefits and do substantial treatment whether it be crown and bridge work or implants, dentures, so on and so forth and just being able to do that for them for no cost was absolutely amazing. So helping people and being in the position to do that, we also every Christmas Eve would do something called care day where we would see up to 100 patients and do free work for them. Those were the most rewarding experiences that I've had in my career and see the smiles on those people's faces.

I think some of the most rewarding experiences for me is really how much opportunity you have to help people and individuals. In my community where I live, we don't have a lot of access to dental care and we have a lot of individuals who end up in pain and have difficulty. So in our practice, two half days a week, we spend time where we have one of our providers just taking individuals who are in urgent or emergent situations and getting them through treatment. So this is anybody who's broken a tooth or something in the aesthetic zone, has pain, swelling and infection and we'll allow these individuals to come into the practice without an appointment and we provide treatment in those same days to get them out of pain and having that immediate gratification of being able to do that.
