I wouldn't say that this is the least favorite aspect of dentistry but I would have to say that the hardest aspect of dentistry has nothing to do with dentistry at all. In fact, it's everything else that is hard because as a dentist you have to be the HR director and the payroll personnel and the advertising guru and the PR rep and you have to learn how to run a practice in a business and just you have to understand everything about dentistry and so if I can give some advice it would be at least understanding business by getting a degree in business or learning business ropes from someone else who has been there before.

One of my least favorite aspects of dentistry are difficult and unreasonable patients and they are in every single practice and it's just a part of dentistry. You have to be professional and take care of them even when they are not considerate of you. So I don't enjoy that part. One of the other things I don't like is I don't like the failure that you see in dentistry and what I mean by that is that when you work on a patient and much of what you do over time, given enough time in the right environment, it will fail even if you do a perfect job and you don't always do a perfect job and patients will come back to you and say, oh I broke a filling or you know this crown and you did this just so long ago and most of the time it's not even the tooth that you've worked on but you have to deal with that aspect of failure and it's not my favorite. But the other part that's hard, the physical part definitely, it's hard on your body and there's pain associated with that.
