Prepare yourself. Those first couple years are very intense, very academic oriented, lots of classwork that goes quickly, moves fast, so prepare yourself with a good science background. That was a good way to tackle those classes in dental school. The second couple years were mostly working in the clinics, so that is an excellent time to hone your skills, be ready for exams and your board exams. So I'd say focusing those first couple years, getting a good science core will help you out in your first couple years of school because those seem to be the toughest.

Getting into dental school can be a real challenge. Working hard and practicing to improve your DAT scores, getting good service hours and leadership and other things that will help you stand out, showing commitment to the school that you're interested in, perhaps by shadowing there or volunteering there. And if you don't get in the first year, applying again with improved scores can really help. Once you're in dental school, it can be a lot to balance, a lot of hard classes. Establishing solid study habits and disciplining yourself, having a team that can help you quiz each other and review notes of the most important things from class. And then work hard to keep a balance. Make time for your spouse and your family so they have balance and they will support you through those challenging years.
