I find being an old school nurse is that everybody thinks that dementia is a new condition. We were looking after people in the asylums back in the late 70s, early 80s, when they all closed down. Before it wasn't called dementia, it was called senile. People were senile, but you're not allowed to use that word now. So, but working with senile people and people with dementia is a very fine line. Unfortunately, it's all based on keeping people safe. Nowadays, the care is keeping them out in the environment and to be treated just as any other individual. So dementia has been around for a very long time.
