Funny story, my wife and I had not started dating yet and we ended up going to chick-fil-a together with her roommate at some point and it was a good time. We hung out, we talked, it was great. I didn't realize at the time but her roommate probably felt a whole lot like a third wheel. So when, I can't remember who, but one of us proposed that we do this again sometime. We did, we did it a week later but the roommate didn't show up. She had other things going on and so it was just me and my future wife at chick-fil-a and we didn't mind one bit. We talked a lot, had fun, it was great.

I'm gonna talk about Jesus a little bit with this, but I just really am a believer that God has a plan for all of us, and if you're not feeling successful with dating right now, like, that's okay. God might have some things that he wants you to learn before you meet your spouse, um, and maybe your spouse is like serving a mission right now, or is living in a different place, or just, I don't know, maybe your spouse is working on bettering himself or herself right now. I just really believe that all the dating experiences we have now, good and bad, are just preparing us to meet that person, and that God will bring them into our lives when he needs us to meet them. So I am trying to be positive and hopeful, even though my dating life isn't the most successful right now.

Don't take advice from somebody whose love life you don't envy. Look to an example of what to do and try to emulate them in yourself. Watch what they're doing, see what's working for them, and follow their example. Don't listen to people just because they have an opinion.

I think something that's important to remember about dating is that you should have, you should have fun. You should enjoy yourself. A lot of the time, at least in Provo, I feel like dating can be really stressful because, I don't know, it's just a stressful environment at times, so it's important just to remember like you just want to have fun no matter what. If you're not interested in a second date, I think if you can just have fun on any date, I think dating will be more worthwhile. People say you don't want to waste money on someone else's wife, but I think just have as much fun as you can even if you're not interested in, you know, pursuing a relationship with that person and just being nice to yourself. Like if someone rejects you, it's okay. It's fine. Like, you know, it's not a big deal. Often the difficulties that we face in the moment are not as big when we have the perspective that comes with time.

You know, don't rush it too much. You know, just because you've turned 18 doesn't mean you need to get married within a couple weeks or a couple months or, you know, even within a year or two or three or whatever. I think it's important to, you know, take it slow and find that one true person for you rather than, you know, taking the first one that comes along. So really take your time with that type of thing.
