If you're gonna eat street food, I would just take advice from the people you talk to about what is safe to eat on the streets. Even just the water in one of my apartments gave me a parasite, and that was nasty to deal with for several months.

Something that I would always do is to always make sure that you know your surroundings, like who is around you, who is paying too much attention to you and stuff like that. Another thing is any of your personal items, try to have them in the front. I usually like to have like a bag that I can put in front of me so that that's why it's out of the way, nobody is paying attention to that. Another thing is when it comes to public transportation, that's usually the main way that people travel, like move from place to place. So it's always good to either like call them where you're at to make sure you're always taking a picture of the license plate and stuff like that. And then also like if you know someone there or you know where you're going to let them know that, hey, I'm coming. So just in case something happens, they know. So just taking a little bit more extra precautions, but it will just help for you to have a fun time.

When it comes to safety, there are a couple of things in Columbia that you've got to be really careful about. Bikes. You just need to be really aware of the traffic around you. I never got hit, but I came close quite a few times, because people drive like maniacs down there. So just be aware and cautious. Find out when you first get to an area where the dangerous parts are. You don't want to go to the really sketchy parts late at night. I made that mistake only once, and I regretted it.

A safety advice I would give to any foreigners that are going to Colombia is to make sure to not have your phone out whenever you're walking in the streets or just out in public. I would also make sure not to wear like any expensive jewelry because people will probably try to steal any expensive jewelry from you. I'd also just be very precautious and aware of your surroundings and just try not to really go out during the night especially like if you're in like the capital or just in general like I would suggest doing stuff in the day would probably be better.
