A little history about Colombia is that we were colonized by the Spaniards, much like most of Latin America. Spaniards came to Colombia and took over, oppressed the indigenous people, brought slaves from Africa, and naturally our indigenous people fought back. There was a revolution led by one of our main people, Simon Bolivar, and he is the one that is given most of the credit for bringing independence to Colombia and also actually helped other countries in Latin America to gain their independence as well. I actually learned a lot of history about Colombia through a soap opera, which is ironic, but the soap opera was called La Pula, and while not everything is 100% true, it does give a great background on the history of Colombia.
