There are so many service opportunities on the island of Oahu, especially around Laie. Many of them can be organized and accessed through BYUH. You just have to go to the McKay Center and there are lots of organized service opportunities that happen through campus. I spent a lot of time helping with beach cleanup when I was there. Unfortunately, it is a big issue and not just beach cleanup, but even just cleaning up trash just around the town of Laie and around the temple. That's just one area of service that is an opportunity, but there's lots available, including helping with locals and helping with the homeless situation is also a really good service opportunity. And like I said, you can check through the McKay Center for those opportunities.

There's a lot of service opportunities here at BUE Hawaii. You just have to ask. There's a lot of service opportunities from Seasiders, different opportunities from the chapters, and all of these has to do not only in the community, but there's also opportunities that we go out of the community. For example, at Koolau Ranch, we go there sometimes, and even at Waimea, we go there as well. Mostly cleaning and stuff like that. We also assist elderly people with their grocery shoppings, and also mowing the lawn, weeding the grass, and beach cleaning. Beach cleaning is really fun because not only you get to clean at the beach, but you also get to swim. It's fun. And you just have to have fun with it because those are some of the projects or service projects that encourages us to get to know other students as well, and some of our faculty and staff members.

One of the scholarship opportunities I wanted to talk about that can actually be encompassed in all the different categories is BYU HSA. I ran for student body president and even though I didn't have experience within BYU HSA, it definitely would have helped. But I still won because what I brought to the table was being relatable with things that I've done in the past, being an RA. So as an RA, which is another good opportunity, you do a lot of the things, hold a lot of the same events and do a lot of the same things as BYU HSA, but just on a smaller scale. So have confidence to apply even though you don't have experience, but definitely get involved and take advantages of all the different opportunities within BYU HSA. Thanks.

One of the things that I got, I served my mission in the Pacific and so because of that they have a return missionary from the Pacific Rim scholarship. So I think that this concludes Philippines, Japan, the Polynesian Islands, Micronesian Islands. If you served in this area you can get a scholarship for one semester. I think it's 50% off or 50% tuition. One of the biggest ones is the merit scholarship. The merit scholarship that you have, if you get a 3.6 or above, 25% all the way up until like a 4.0, 3.9 which can cover up to 100% full ride scholarship. That's the biggest one that I see a lot is the merit scholarship so look into that.

I'm not sure if they're the same as when I was there because I graduated in 2017, but when I was there, if I kept my GPA at a certain level, they would give me scholarships, like a quarter of tuition, sometimes half tuition, and then my last year there they raised the GPA requirements to give out those semester scholarships, but they were like automatic. I didn't have to apply for them or anything. Another thing is they have some on-campus student jobs, such as the BYU Hawaii Service Center, and it's like a tuition stipend, so I did that while I was there, and you put it, they give you money to put towards your tuition while you're working as a service coordinator for the campus, so I loved that too.

For me, I'm very grateful and blessed to make it this far in my education life thanks to the iWork program, iWork scholarship. So if you're an iWork student, I highly recommend you to do your very best at all times and always remember the reason why you're here on school is to study really hard and pass your classes because a lot of wonderful people have donated their money for us to be here, especially the students from the Pacific. So yeah, if I was able to have made it for college for three years, you can too by being grateful and show that gratefulness through your ethic, your work ethic and your perseverance here in school, especially as a student and be successful and make use of the opportunity that has been offered to you. Whether it's iWork scholarship or other forms of scholarships, just do your very best.
