Outdoor activities - Brigham Young University-Hawaii Video Transcripts

There are so many outdoor activities and the best one definitely is the beach about five minutes away from campus if you don't want to go too far or if you don't have a car. If you have a bunch of friends that have cars, you can drive a little bit further down to downtown Rio or to North Shore. There are lots of surfing places that you can rent or brought your own surfing board and then just surf out there. In the North Shore, they have places to do the skydiving and it cost, unfortunately, about $150 or $175 to do that, but it was fun. If you drive all the way to downtown, you can go to some zoo and also some other places in downtown area in down in Waikiki there and there are lots of restaurants and places that you can go on a date or whatever there. And lots of Asian food too. I like it.

I recommend during the summer going to Shark's Cove and free diving and during the winter going to all the surfing competitions.

If you like outdoors at all, BYU-Hawaii is the place to be. Pretty much, you just live outdoors. You're only indoors if you're in class or getting a book from the library. Church, also on Sundays, you're inside. But other than that, I've lived outside. From taking a nap under a palm tree, to riding my bike around town up to the point, to riding my longboard, to jogging, to hiking. There's close hikes. There's hikes all over. You don't have to go very far or get very high to get an extremely beautiful view. Of course, there's a beach. There's swimming. Basically, there's no excuse not to be outside, and the weather is absolutely perfect year-round. So you're outdoors constantly. It's awesome.

Here at BYU-Hawaii we have so many outdoor activities. To watch a sunrise in the morning on Laie Point, or to go on one of the several hikes that are close to the area up behind BYU campus. Just to grab a surfboard and go out surfing or kayaking. The beach is just right down the street. It's nice to have everything so close. The temple, the church, the grocery store, and people bike it and skateboard it everywhere. It's a great place to just be active outside.

There are so many outdoor activities on the island of Oahu and you really can't go wrong with any of them. So even just doing some research about hikes that are close to campus or even just hikes and other places of the island that you can get to on the bus is totally worth it. All the hiking, all the beaches is really great. I would definitely recommend snorkeling and buying some snorkeling gear or renting some snorkeling gear at some point while you're on the island. Three Tables is a great location for that. It is about 20 minutes north of campus on North Shore and that is a great snorkeling spot and I feel like it's a little bit of a less popular spot as well so it's not quite as crowded. But there's so many great activities, outdoor activities on the island you just can't go wrong.
