It's something that I always tell people when they ask for advice about going to BYU-Hawaii is I regret not buying a car there. I know like for financial reasons that's probably why I didn't, but I also think that if I split it with a few people and we had a car to get us from place to place and then sell it when I left just like a cheap- something that just got us places that would have been a very different experience because I had to rely on the bus that didn't let me take my surfboards on and then also just relying on other people. It's just not always the best way to go, so if you're going to BYU-Hawaii, I recommend getting a car for sure.

A word of advice I would give to anyone going to BYU-Hawaiʻi is to don't have so many expectations that they're impossible to fulfill. Embrace it for what it is, become part of what it is, and be very present. I would say put your phone down, put your computer away, of course do what you have to for school, but just be part of Laie and the community, be part of BYU-Hawaiʻi and the campus, be part of your ward. I would encourage you to take time to meet and become friends with people from all over the world. Get outside of your normal clique, get outside of your comfort zone, and start talking to other people. Listen, listen to them and let them teach you who they are. Serve them and love them. You will make lifelong friends from around the world, and your eyes will be opened to the uniqueness of the human family and children of God. I would say love every minute you can.
