I think BYU-Hawaii is special to me because working at the Polynesian Culture Center and being a tour guide has helped me so much to love other people and connect with them. And every day I would call them ohana, family, cousins, make sure you don't lose your cousin, make sure everyone's together because I don't, I only have two eyes to see all 20 of you. Sometimes you spend five hours with them because you started a tour early and sometimes you just spend two hours because it just happens that you're one of the last people to go on tour. And I sincerely would sometimes cry when I would say goodbye to them because they become so special to me. I would tell them I know it sounds funny to call everyone family, cousins, but you really are my family today. I don't have a family to be with me for my college time so you really become my family. And they really care for each other even if they're not even related as if they're family.

Aloha, family! How's it going? So, I honestly feel like my life took a bigger step once I started going to college. Back in high school, I didn't really do a lot. I played ukulele, and that's what I'm usually known for, but I didn't really do any plays. I barely did sports. I did it a couple times, but I didn't really, like, reach out to people. It was only until I went to BYU Hawaii that I really just took off with things. I ended up having, like, a reputation, and because it's a small community, you end up getting to know a lot more people, which is so nice. I ended up performing a lot more. I ended up doing things that I never thought I would be able to do during my time there. I thought I was just gonna go study, but I've honestly been able to do so much more and have amazing experiences, and it's thanks to my time at BYU Hawaii and just being able to just step out of my comfort zone. It was still a lot of fun, but still sometimes scary too, and honestly, I think that's how it should be, but in the end, it was a lot of fun, and I'd love to do it again.

When I was a tour guide at BYU Hawaii, there was a girl who had just recovered from cancer. And so I was in taking this tour around of about like 15 people maybe. And like since everyone knew that she had just been cured of cancer, then everyone went out of their way to make the make her day super special. At the time we had this little promo where like the kids could go around to get stamps and so that they could get a prize at the end. The prize ended up being super lame, like a rock or something with like a greeting word written on it. So then I went and bought her like one of these dolphins because she mentioned that she wanted one. So I got it for her and then her mom was so happy. She was so happy they were both crying and her mom was saying how she always wanted to go to Hawaii, but she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to make it. And so that was really inspirational.

I'm from Tonga and I hope my story will inspire you to do your very best at school. So I'm the first in my family to make it this far in education, graduated from high school and came here to school and graduated from here in 2019 and also I just got admitted to BYU Pearl Wharf for the Masters in English program. So yeah, if I make it this far from a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean, it's possible and you can do it too. So I hope this inspires you to do your very best and make your your family happy and be proud of who you are. So yeah, never give up and remember always who you are, where you're from and always have that desire ready to give back to the community. So I hope my story will inspire you to give it a shot and do your best at all times.
