Saving money can be a hard thing to do at BYU-Hawaii. Everything is very expensive. Food is very expensive. One of the biggest things that my roommate and I do to save money is that we try to cook dinner mostly every night without eating out. Also, buying food and going in on groceries together, cooking together, that's been a big thing. Some other things you can do is just budget. Know where you're going to spend your money. How much have a little extra fun for activities and things like that.

You can save money in BYU-Hawaii by first going to give and take where you can get things like clothes, kitchen wares, utensils, books, etc in exchange for a 30-minute service. Second, make sure you get high grades so that you can be eligible to apply for scholarships and it will help you to pay your tuition. And make sure you maintain your grades. Third, make sure you go to social events. There will always be food there.

Why is it expensive? There's really no way of getting around that completely. However, I worked from day one. I was hired on the spot and even when I was double majoring and dating and getting married and then doing post-bac, I always worked. So one way of saving money is always having a constant flow of money. Obviously, spend less than you make. I found it very advantageous to go on hikes, go to the beach. The natural wonders surrounding Laie are really astounding. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars down in Honolulu. There's a lot of open space and free things to do between you, Kaneohe, Honolulu, or even going to the North Shore. Carpool when you can. If you're able to, get a car and offer other people rides. I guess the simple thing is make meals with other people and eat with other people because that's kind of what meals should be about. It should be a social activity.

Well, the first few things I would recommend is looking into buying a monthly bus pass. They are cheaper depending on how many times you're going to be using the bus, but it's cheaper to buy a monthly bus pass if you're going to ride frequently than paying the fare every single time. You can get the monthly bus passes from Foodland, or I think probably any Foodland, but there's a Foodland right there in Laie that you could buy a monthly bus pass from. I also recommend for food, buying the things that are on sale and watching the sales. As a student, there are lots of discounts for different activities on the island, so looking into that and finding out what the discounts are for students is something that would very much help you save money.

So I used to work in this as well. It was for SWAT, and I'm not sure if they're still calling it SWAT, but anyway, they are in charge of give and take, which is in TVA, Temple View Apartments, and so there, pretty much if anyone is moving, because pretty much everyone moves away, then they give away the things that they can't take with them, and there's like a ton of stuff there. There is like Xboxes, games, tons of clothes, books, textbooks, always check there for your textbooks first, and then also the garden. They have a garden as well, and if you work for 30 minutes, same with give and take, if you work there for 30 minutes, you can get free eggs, free bananas, free carrots, whatever they have at the time.

Don't waste money. Go eat in the cafeteria. We have really nice food in the cafeteria. Go visit your friends and, you know, have dinner with them. But I would advise to save money. Stop wasting money on fast food. Going out and stuff like that, it's good. Just hang out, like, you know, stress-free. But I would recommend, you know, to go eat in the cafeteria. If you don't have a meal plan, because you can apply for a meal plan at BYU Hawaii, and go enjoy the food in the cafeteria and mingle among other Seasiders and, you know, enjoy their conversations and join in with them and get to know each other, because that's how you build friendships and relationships. Yeah, you know, get out of your comfort zone and go eat in the cafeteria. Stop wasting money.

Hawaii is a really high cost of living place and the way that students can handle it is in the morning you go to class and afternoon you go to a part-time job and in the evening you continue study and that's about how the students kind of handle it and there are lots of job opportunities on campus and also around the campus and the Pornhub Cultural Center right next to it and that's just how I think you can save money especially when you have wife or husband or children.

Don't spend money on everything that you want. I used to just, online ordering was a thing, I mean it still is, but I would just order everything instead of saving money and paying back my student loans. So, put away every so often what you would want to spend, just like, do I really need this or is it a want? And then put it aside so you can start paying back your loans or start paying back your loans already so you're not accruing interest if possible.
