Aloha, family. So one of the things I love to do as part of my extracurricular activities was a lot of sports. And even though BYU-Hawaii doesn't have a sports program, they still, it's very much a lifestyle there. We have many things such as volleyball, badminton, soccer, and it really just depends on, there's the intramurals that the school has as well, but I would also recommend just talking to the people at these events too, because many people communicate through Facebook groups. I personally, I was in the badminton Facebook group as well as a soccer Facebook group, and that's how I was able to learn when these people were playing, because we all have different schedules. We're all trying to figure out what works well for each of us, and so it was a lot better when we were able to all meet up and just have a good time playing sports. It was a lot of fun.

I pretty much enjoyed my time joining the extracurricular activities when I was a student at BYU-Hawaii. I found so many great people that they were not only my basketball teammates or badminton or soccer, but they became family or ohana to me. For example, we would get together once or twice a week and study together, help one another, since we studied different majors and stuff. We did not just play to win in the field, but we also like to work together as a team in becoming successful students here at BYU-Hawaii. So yeah, I would encourage you to make friends and build your own ohana by joining extracurricular activities on campus.

We have volleyball, we have rugby, basketball tournaments sometimes, especially like in the middle of the semester, that's when students come together they host different activities and we also do activities on Saturdays and stuff like that and Saturdays is pretty much, we do seaside activities for example, we do marathon, we do volleyball, water polo activities and stuff like that and also with this we have people from the community join us as well, we invite community families and stuff like that to come have fun with us, the students. Why not, right? Play volleyball, play some sports, yeah it's fun and swim in the pool, yay!

There's always something going on, but to be a part of the extracurricular activities you have to be a part of like the clubs and everything, and there are so many different chapters, like there's Filipino chapter, Tonga chapter, New Zealand chapter, Latin America chapter, there are so many, and it's just up to you which ones you want to do. At the beginning of every semester they have a day where you can go into the Aloha Center and sign up for however many you want. You can sign up for all of them if you want, you can sign up for two, whatever you want.

At BYU-Hawaii, there's always something to join in on, and there's lots of clubs and lots of activities. I think that when I was there, my favorite thing was anything with music, just because that's a huge part of my life. I was taking music classes, and I was in the concert choir, and because of being in the concert choir, that provided a lot of extracurricular activities outside of class time, a few field trips, things like that, just for performances and such, and that was definitely my area that I was focused in mostly, but there are also a lot of sport options, and lots of extracurricular activities all over the place.

My number one extracurricular at BYU-Hawaii had to be the Honors Program. I don't know the current status of the Honors Program, but the activities that we did was semester book clubs, weekly or bi-weekly at times, classic film nights, we did knowledge ball trivia games. The Honors Program is just an awesome way of getting involved, getting to know other students who are serious about their academics and having fun, and most importantly, in my mind, getting to know the professors. Any professor lecture or training or seminar that I was able to attend, I often went with my friends or on a date, made such a big difference. So what happens in class? Yes, it's fun, yes, let's get our degrees, but really spending time with the professors and other students who are interested in things that I found myself interesting was worthwhile and definitely was a highlight of my extracurricular activities.

One of the extracurricular activities I really loved was a thing they call a food fest and culture night actually. There's two different things. The food fest happens in the spring and the culture fest in the fall and at food fest you they have booths from all the different clubs around campus from all the different countries and they make foods from all over and it's so wonderful to try all the different kinds of food and to see the people dressing up in traditional garb from their countries and oh the food is amazing. And in the culture night they dance wonderful dances from all around. They're not doing them right now because of COVID but hopefully they start the back up real soon.
