Many of the hardest experiences I've had as an artist deal with kind of the intellectual turmoil involved in wanting to be true to myself and do what I know I want to do, paintings that I find inspirational, versus what I sometimes get caught up in thinking that the general market will want. I obviously have to sell paintings to stay in business and to be able to keep on doing this. And sometimes it's a little while between painting and selling, and other times I'll sell a big one and it pays for several months. But reckoning those two, what do I want to do versus what do I think others want, I think it's always best to just do what you want to do. It's really good to do that.
