Do what you can control. Wash your face every morning and night and find things that work really well for you and if you really need to go to a dermatologist or someone that is more specialized in it but there are things that you can control like washing your face morning and night, changing your diet, getting a good amount of sleep and drinking plenty of water.

Something that I swear by is double cleansing. A lot of people don't know about this and a lot of people don't know how to do it. Double cleansing is incredibly important for your nighttime skincare routine. So if you are able to invest in something like a cleansing balm or cleansing oil that you can use to like remove makeup or if you feel like your face is especially dirty. Honestly at the end of every day I would just do double cleansing regardless. Start and go in with a cleansing balm or a cleansing oil and then use your regular cleanser after that. And that's just really good for making sure that your pores aren't incredibly clogged and just healthy in general.

One thing that people don't really utilize is drinking water. Drinking a very large amount of water every single day is incredibly helpful for acne and it can partially clear up your skin. If your acne is hormonal it won't have a super big effect but regardless it's really healthy for you. So drinking water is incredibly helpful for clearing your skin and I can speak from experience that it really does help.

Another helpful tip for acne is to wash your bed sheets and pillowcases often. They collect a lot of grease or skin cells and stuff from sleeping on it, putting your face on it at night. And so in order to keep that surface clean, just think of how much time you spend with your face on that surface. So in order to keep that clean, you want to make sure to wash it often. Another helpful tip with acne is hydration. If your skin is dry or it's not properly moistened, using moisturizers can help, but drinking enough water is a huge thing that'll help with acne. Another tip that can be nice with treating acne is to avoid popping your zits as much as you can. It can cause a lot of damage and actually scars. So I have some scars on my face from doing that. So speak from experience, try to avoid that if you can.

For the stress aspect of acne, a really good way to help is one, to practice meditation and mindfulness. If you don't know what that is, go look it up. There's plenty of videos to help you know how to do that. But taking time to decompress, to have time to yourself, is very very important. Also having a consistent sleep schedule. You are more likely to be more stressed out if you do not go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, including the weekends. It can really ruin it. Even if you think you're helping yourself by sleeping in on the weekend, you're not. It's less about how many hours you're getting and more about the consistency of your sleep that will help mitigate your stress levels.

I would highly recommend trying to avoid dairy where you don't have any milk or cheese or animal products for a period of time and to eat a low-fat diet and see how that affects your acne. I recently have tried that out and my skin has cleared up very significantly.

The cleanliness aspect of acne can be mitigated by buying a lot of pillowcases and make sure that it is a fabric that is comfortable, smooth on your skin, washing them regularly, washing your clothes with them regularly, and taking showers as well as washing your face in time with when you are washing those things because if your pillowcase is clean but you are not clean then it's not really going to do all that much. However, if you wash your face, you take a shower, you have clean clothes on, and your pillowcase and blankets are clean, then you'll be able to go to sleep. Especially if it's a warm room, you'll be able to sleep in a clean environment each night and your skin will start to improve a lot more. Sometimes hair can be greasy, pulling it up out of the way can also keep those things out, especially while you sleep.
