Hello, this is Randy Jentsch, a CPA in Oregon, and I'm going to tell you how I got my first job out of college. In my intro, I told you that, hey, I graduated from BYU without a job. There was me and I think two others, which really sent the School of Accountancy up into a lot of turmoil. But I put out some resumes and applied in Salt Lake, and I got interviews with KMG Maine Herdman and Ernst & Winnie. And luckily for me, Maine Herdman said, hey, we'll use you for busy season. And I said, great. And so then I worked there for approximately four months, and then I transferred. And look, I was on the street a lot looking for work.

How I got my job? Just the typical going out there and looking. I think that's the one thing I like about accounting is that, you know, there are a surplus of job opportunities out there. I got my job through search through Indeed and looking at the companies I want to pursue a career at and jump right on in. How I got my first job was a big four. Actually, the interesting thing is I got it through internship, but I got that internship through a case study competition that I placed first in regionals and second in nationals. So I just wanted to let you know there are a lot of ways to get your foot in the door. I got my foot in the door through that. I interned and from there I was essentially told, you know, the job is mine to lose. Years later that has propelled me on my career.

There was a newer company in the area in which I live and as their business was growing they wanted to bring their accounting in-house rather than outsource it. They had been given my name and after discussions with them it sounded like a perfect opportunity for me to change the direction of my career and for them to achieve the goals of their business. Thank you.
